Queensryche fans: What are your favorite albums and/or songs by them?
Queensryche was a band that I was aware of for a long time but never really into that much. Years ago I bought Empire and though I thought it was a really good album I never checked out any more of their music. Earlier this year a friend saw them in concert and told me how good they were. He loaned me Tribe and I liked several of the songs on it especially Open, Losing Myself and Tribe. I decided to check out more of their albums and purchased Operation: Mindcrime since it was widely considered to be their best album. After listening to it a dozen or more times I must say that I consider it a masterpiece. I'm sorry that I hadn't discovered it sooner. From a musical standpoint the songs are catchy and memorable. Even better the lyrics are intelligent and thought provoking. Although it is a concept album the individual songs stand on their own (though they have a greater impact in the context of the whole album and its storyline). In fact I just bought the Operation: Live Crime DVD because I liked the CD so much. The band did a great job performing the album in concert. I recently bought a ticket to see Queensryche in January in Michigan on their Greatest Hits/Operation: Mindcrime tour. It should be a great concert since they will be doing their greatest hits in the first half of the show and Operation: Mindcrime in its entirety with multi-media, actors and Dolby Surround sound during the second half.
I was wondering what other Queensryche CDs would you recommend besides Empire, Operation: Mindcrime and Rage for Order which I already have? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I also enjoyed Promised Land alot, and you should pick up the Operation Livecrime cd as well. I haven't heard Tribe, stopped listening after Hear in the Now Frontier.
Operation Mindcrime is my favorite one. Cant really pick a favorite song, though i'd put Silent Lucidity and Empire up there.

I bought Mindcrime back in 88/89 or so, and ever since Queensryche has been my all time favorite band. Mindcrime is their best, and in fact I consider it one of the best metal albums ever. It's prolly the only album where I love every song on it and there isn't a single one that I thought was just "ok", etc.
Empire is a good album too, but I also like Rage for Order a lot, after empire things started going a little downhill. I still love the band but on the last few CDs they just haven't hit the same level they were at with Mindcrime or Empire.
I recently read they're working on a sequel to Mindcrime now. I'm not sure about it though, it could either be really good judging by part 1, or really bad judging by their more recent albums... but who knows, I'll still buy it cuz they're an awesome band.
Best concert I ever went to was in august 2000, halford opened, then Queensryche came out, then Iron Maiden finished the show.. it was awesome
And what was so great was Queensryche stuck to their mostly older and heavier stuff

Mindcrime is top notch. I'd also pick up Live Evolution, though.....I'm a big fan of the songs Queen Of The Reich and Jet City Woman. It's ashame that DeGarmo didn't stay with the band.

Operation Mindcrime is definitely the band's masterpiece.
I agree that the band is not the same after DeGarmo left, but Tribe (in which DeGarmo participated) is damn good.
They are amazing live.
Looking forward with great anticipation and horror to Mindcrime II. God, I hope it doesn't suck.

I liked Silent Lucidity until it was played to death on the radio.
I haven't heard it in years though, so maybe I can rediscover it.
I always liked the song Empire.
Mindcrime is a great cd. I don't think I can pick one song out of the entire cd that I like better then the other. I always listen to it the whole way though.
I had the VHS copy of the concert and live cd when it came out.
Good stuff

I just got into them a few years back when a friend (knowing my music tastes couldn't believe I had never got into them). Anyway he told me to start with Mindcrime. Wow. Masterpiece. It is actually playing on the player right now.
Empire: another masterpiece, just shy of the brilliance of Mindcrime. Does anyone get the feeling Empire was a hold over from Mindcrime? It just has that feeling and vibe that it belongs on that cd.
Just recently joined BMG to pick up all the remasters cheap. Good way to go. Rage For Order is my other fave.
side note: Queensryche is running a promotion through christmas on their site. Buy any article of clothing and they will donate the same thing to the homeless. Buy a shirt, they donate a shirt. Buy a hat, they donate a hat. Pretty cool idea.
