Some Music Awards Show on TV right now...

Don't know what it is - grammys or american music awards or something... It's on Fox. Anyway, they just had an award for best Ringtone for your cell phone. Thought you would want to know that 50cent In Da Club won. This is why I don't watch awards shows - anyone else feel this way?

Yeaup, pretty much the same response here... I think it's the Billboard awards tonight.

Last time I watched a Grammy B'cast, I believe Stevie Wonder won Best Album for Songs In The Key of Life and Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass won for best Jazz album... a l-o-o-o-o-on-n-n-n-g-g-g-g time ago.

Best ringtone.... jeez.... well, better a ringtone than Ashlee, I guess......

ew - holy crap... the evanesence chick is doing some song with vocals and a piano and then the band busts in along with the orchestra and all 3 were out of key with each other - by a large margin... sounded worse than shit.

I thought Usher's "Yeah!" was a shoe-in for this year's award.

That category is ridiculous, but does anyone take the Billboard awards seriously? I pretty much just watch the Grammys and the Oscars and that's it.

I think the thread title, for "some music awards show", speaks volumes as to how ineffective and irrelevant these awards are.

I was turned off by whatever song Usher was singing. Still, if Carmen Electra was onstage rather than Dave Navarro.........

I don't mean to defend the Billboard awards...in fact, I loathe the whole concept of the Billboard awards. That concept being that in order to win one of these things, you have to sell a lot of records (though, I don't know how this concept is any different from the Grammys).

Anyway, with this concept in mind, I believe that Billboard actually tracks the amounts of ringtones downloaded to phones, and then eventually reports the charts in their publications. So, since it seems that the Billboard awards include all the categories that they track, the "Best Ringtone" award sort of makes sense.

I still think it's dumb, though!

Ok, it wasn't just me. I couldn't believe how out of tune everyone was. I mean you kind of expect some performers not to be able to replicate their songs live, but I don't think I've heard the back-up strings be out of tune before!

I only flipped by a couple of times, but did anyone else think Alicia Keys looked good with a little bit of meat on her bones?

That one is cool, because it's designed to make you mouth the words to the wrong song when it goes off. Then, you start doing a little hoedown.
