What are some good Karaoke songs?

What are some good songs to sing on Karaoke night? Upbeat songs? Songs everyone knows? Most popular songs? Etc?

IMHO...good karaoke songs are ones that you yourself like to sing. Ones that you are familiar with, and that are in your vocal range. Personally, I would prefer doing songs that not everyone knows, instead of all the ones you've heard a thousand people do time after time after time. If you can do well with a song, it doesn't matter if everyone else knows it, or even likes it. You'll impress. Nothing is worse than sitting there listening to someone who doesn't know a song, and can't reach certain notes. I know it's supposed to be in the name of fun, but sometimes I feel like I'd rather hear the collective flatulation of the entire bar's patronage than listen to one more tin-ear delusionist warbling out any of today's current hits like an asthmatic donkey.

I've only done karaoke once in my life, and I had fun with it. I did:

Add It Up - Violent Femmes
I'll Be - Edwin McCain
Every Second - Collin Raye
No One Needs To Know - Shania Twain (duet with a girl at the bar)

If I do it again, I've been wanting to try George Michael's "Kissing A Fool" and Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game".

Pick a really long song, like something by Meatloaf, Stairway or American Pie. Everyone in the bar will love you for taking up 8-15 minutes of their life.

Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville is always a solid choice.
