What other movie sites do you go to? And why the hate with AICN?
Anyone of you regularly check other sites that feature film reviews and upcoming projects?
Aside fm Aint-It-Cool-News, I also go to Dark Horizons & JoBlo. I also check sites dedicated to Asian films like Hong Kong Cinema (View fm Brooklyn Bridge), LoveHKfilm, Midnight Eye &Foutz.net.
I notice that a lot of people seem to really despise Harry Knowles of AICN. I honestly think that some of the hate derives from the fact that:
- he now has considerable influence in Hollywood
- he doesn't need to exercise and is way, way too fat but still
gets to do what he loves
- he has a very successful website
- he watches movies way before most of us do
- he is overweight but some Hollywood people still kiss his big
fat ass

- he totally buys into hype (Star Wars Episode II better than Empire Strikes Back
)
- half of his reviews sound like incoherent fanboy ravings, and the other half are about how he likes to collect pantyhose commercials or something like that
But hey, that's just my opinion.
In response to the first question though, I go to UpcomingMovies (now movies.yahoo.com/upcoming) for most of the information I need. I don't really get excited about looking at movie stills and cast lists and reading about little plot details months in advance. For Asian movies, I usally go to KungFuCinema or KFC Cinema and sometimes NixFlix. For DVDs, I use DVD-Basen or occasionally IGN DVD.

AICN - half the time it doesn't even load, pretty much everytime they post something new. And the ads always seem to be obnoxious... not real big on the crude humor either.
Other sites i check out are comingsoon.net, and darkhorizons.

That's currently the first headline on his site. It's the juvenile writing on the board like that that makes me hate the place.
And upon further inspection, I find another good example. They can't write a review of Garden State without making stalker comments regarding Natalie Portman.

Takes too long to load
Updates are now a memory game. The dating system seems to be hit and miss
Updates are no longer as interesting as they once were. Where they used to come mostly from tidbits sent to Garth, they now seem to be mainly culled from the industry journals, etc.
Now I mostly come here.
Oh, and as for AICN, Michael Corvin expressed my feelings above.
If I can't read it, I won't read it.

AICN sucks for many reasons. One, the site design is awful. Two, their message boards are a mess, they don't even stay in order. Three, their "news" these days sucks, and is way behind everyone else. Three, Knowles is a blubbering fool sometimes. Sure, it can be amusing, but he's really no more knoledgable than your average fanboy, but worst of all...his writing skill is close to worthless.
Listen, I still go to his site. But the simple fact is...

My problem with AICN is that there seems to be a lot of negativity. If a movie seems to be getting some mixed to negative reviews, they go to far w/ the negativity and say " it blows!!!!!!!!!!!!!" or "it sucks nuts!" Also, it seems to be a snowball effect: if one review is negative, then the rest of the reviews for that movie will be negative.

I still read AICN out of habit, but I shouldn't have to try to skim through half a page of Harry rambling about his day and how happy he was before the movie because he got a new toy and other totally unnecessary crap.
