Hi all I received Ed Wood from half's website last week. I still have it sealed sitting on my nightstand. Do you think I should open it? If Buena Vista re-releases it it probably won't have the same extras? Is it gonna be valuable later on?

DVDs as a commodity are not really going to bring you riches.
Why did you buy it in the first place? Just because it was pulled from distribution?

Open it. There are so many copies of this dvd out there that it's highly unlikely that it will ever be much more valuable than it is right now.

If you bought it to squirrel away in hope that it might be valuable one day, don't open it.

If you bought it because you wanted to own it and watch it, open it.

I tried playing an unopened Criterion DVD of Charade, but I couldn't get the disc tray to close. So I wound up opening it, and it worked perfectly!

Don't open it!!! The reason it was recalled is because some were laced with Anthrax. Instead send it to my address and I will dispose of it properly.

I'd say open it, and enjoy it. Even if you want to sell it someday, I don't think the fact that it's not sealed would have that much of an effect on the price. JMHO

How can you watch it if you don't open it? And if you don't want to watch it, why did you buy it?

Did you think it was an investment? If so, what you really wanted to buy was a CD, not a DVD. Common mistake. I think some people around here still are confused on this point...

(Of course, with rates these days, even CDs aren't all that good of an investment).

Fer crying out loud... There are folks, on this very forum, who want a copy of Ed Wood to... Get this... Watch the DVD and enjoy the film. I'm sure someone who genuinely loves this film would be glad to take your copy off of your hands. If you bought this for the film then by all means open it and enjoy it! DVDs as an investment... Sheesh...

Apart from that little rant, you can always sell it or trade it if you don't like it. As long as you don't have a boot that is...

It's never going to be worth any much more than it is now, so if you don't want to sell it now, you might as well open it. And if you want to sell it, you should get to it, because almost everybody who wants it and is willing to pay the outrageous price has already been gauged by quicker folks than you.

I bought mine a week ago and open it and watch it. No regret.

i contemplated the same thing when flashdance went oop on CED(videodisc)-- but as much as i wanted to open, i knew that some day it'd pay off..

i sold off my little 24.99 investment back in the day, and got $2.41 for that beauty on ebay

not bad for sitting on something for a mesely 16 years..

so i say hold off as well, you'll roll in the money later..

Don't open it! Go to home depot and buy a little marble pedastal. Then go to Pottery Barn and get a little velvet pillow to put on the pedastal. Finally, put your unopened Ed Wood on the pillow.

Or open it. Or sell it on e-bay. Or donate it to charity. Or....

Open it. It's probably one of the best movies you own, and everybody already has this DVD. It's not as rare as you think.

If anything, when it is finally, officially released, the current version you now have will actualy be worth LESS. True, it may have something on it the newer release won't have, but right now, only the people that have the pulled version can see it on DVD at all. That is really why it's valuable now and why it won't be AS valuable later.

I got a copy on release date and have watched it four or five times. I love it. Open it, make some popcorn, invite over some friends and "Let's watch this f@#$%r!"
