Since I like The Eagles, The Dude doesn't get my vote. Sorry.

So outta that list, I had to go with Smokey from Friday. Slater from D&C is another big favorite.

Cheech and Chong set the standard for the stoner character(s). When I first saw Up in Smoke, I laughed so hard my head hurt for a day in spite of consuming certain nerve numbing and mood altering substances.

The Dude: Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I'm the Dude, man.
Blond Treehorn Thug: Your name's Lebowski, Lebowski. Your wife is Bunny.
The Dude: My... my wi-, my wife, Bunny? Do you see a wedding ring on my finger? Does this place look like I'm ****ing married? The toilet seat's up, man!

The Dude: Fortunately, I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug, uh, regimen to keep my mind, you know, uh, limber.

I can't believe I forgot my all time favorite stoner . . . Gutter from PCU!!! I'm almost embarrassed about having forgotten that. Nobody beats him and his associated cast of "useless, yerk-toting, frisbee-chucking cheeba-monkeys".

Tough call! Before I clicked on the link I figured I'd vote Spicoli (I assumed he'd definitely be on the list,) not even thinking about the Dude. Because well, he's the Dude, and there's so much of his Dudeness that you forget he's a stoner.

Of course it's the Dude.
