Sony Grand Wega 60" TV Need some advice
Hi guys,
I'm about to get a TV. I would like a large tv 50"+ and was looking for the best value. I don't know much about aspects and ratios and what not. I just know that I saw the TV at Good Guys and was impressed by the color and sharpness of the picture for a rear projection tv. Any help you can give me regarding:
1) Is the Sony Grand Wega 60" a good TV?
2) Are there any alternatives if I was to seek another tv? (Budget of about 4K or so)
Thanks.
-Calvin

That's what I thought the last time I looked at it. Not very good contrast.

Any suggestions on Mitsubishi or Toshiba sets?
Thanks for the replies guys. Any suggestions on Rear Projection TV's 50-60"? My father in law has the 65" Diamond vision. I am not too impressed with it's resolution and picture quality.

I 2nd the Mits also. I love mine. It's a 55" and has done me very well over the past couple years. Pioneer is also another one to look at.

Also, is your fil's tv *properly* set up? A diamond has an excellent picture. A run-through with a calibration disc will help lots, as well as really doing a complete 64-point convergence. Have these been done? To go a bit further, you can adjust linearity and overscan using the remote. All of this will run you under $50 or so (for the disc and a membership at hometheaterforum, where they have tons of tweaks and how-to's). A real bargain and necessary for any rptv IMO.
I'd also go with a Mitsu as a first choice, or maybe a Panny or Hitachi. Stick with Sony for tube tv's, but their rp's are not particularly good.

From: The chair at the top of the stairs..
Ive got the Panasonic 53" widescreen and am very happy with it.. I've had for a while now with no problems, great picture.. For the size and price of this set (which keeps dropping) you can't go wrong.. No, it doesnt have dvi but I don't need that right now anyway.. HD sources look amazing..
This set can be had for about $1,500 now.. this seems to be way below your spending limit, but you could always spend that $ on a sweet DTS 6.1 or 7.1 setup
