Rainbow Six - What's the PC game like?

I've never played this game but saw it bundled with 2 other games at BestBuy for like $20.00.

Is it like one of those Command & Conquer type games where you just line things up and let 'em go at it, or is it more like a shooter game where I can control the men and shoot some bad dudes in the head?

Thanks

It's a shooter, but VERY heavy on the planning aspect. It's a tactical shooter. Like Ghost Recon in that respect, but you spend a long time actually planning your run before you drop into the game.

With that said, the graphics are not on par with anything recent, and Rainbow Six: Raven Shield (the sequel) is about to launch.

You didn't mention if you're looking at the original Rainbow Six, or the RS: Rogue Spear sequel.

I played it for a little while. It got really frustrating and I uninstalled it.

I find the R6 games to be much more interesting and exciting than most other shooters. Most missions can be accomplished by just using one character (at a time) but if you have any strategic bones in your body you'll enjoy the planning phase, you might even find yourself quoting the A-Team -- "I love it when a plan comes together."

The game is also realism and detail orientated. You can select from real weapons, multiple types of armor and camo, soldiers of different abilites, etc. Plus the game uses a more realistic damage model that often results in one shot kills -- this really ups the intensity level as one false move can leave a few of your favorite soldiers lying in a pile on the floor.

The graphics are relatively simple and basic. There aren't a lot of details but there are a lot of diverse locations -- forests, houses, office buildings, etc. Also, the sound is top-notch. Great music, great weapon sounds, good voice work, lots of audio clues, etc.

All that being said I liked Rogue Spear (R6 2) better than R6. I can't explain why since the 2 games are so similar. Both games are worth owning though. Each has about 15 missions if I remember correctly.

If you have any more questions please ask. I could talk about the R6 games all day.

I know what you're saying. I just can't get into these type of games. I also hated the PC version of Ghost Recon.....

It's already out, and it's frustratingly hard. I guess I've gotten used to Ghost Recon by now, with its on-the-fly planning.
