Office Space Ripoff in Superbowl ad

Did anyone notice that in one of the Superbowl ads there was a reference to TPS Reports? I don't remember what it was an ad for, but it featured a company who hired an NFL defesive lineman to "motivate" their employees. He motivates by tackling and yelling at all slacker employees. He floors a guy for playing solitare on the job. At one point he pounds a guy because he didn't turn in his TPS Reports. I thought the ad sucked, because it was a total rip off.

Good one, guys. Next you'll tell us that there are actually restaurants like the one Jennifer Aniston works in.

Yes, but did you see the memo about them?

My point was that the ad was obviously inspired by Office Space. Pretty shallow idea pool that these agencies and directors fish out of.

...yeah, we're mentioning TPS reports in all of our ads now, so if you could go ahead and just do that from now on, that would be greeeeat.

One good rip-off deserves another. The main plotline of Office Space was lifted from Superman 3, and most of the jokes were variants on Dilbert cartoons.

The ad relies on people having seen Office Space to get the joke. Its more of a homage than a rip-off.

Yeah I saw that as an homage to Office Space, the people who haven't seen it won't find it very funny (well at least that part.) Great ad IMO.

I'm sorry, it's been some time since I've seen the film, but what does the commercial have to do with it besides being in an office?

I agree with MrN. I thought that the commercial was absolutely hilarious. The Office Space reference only made it better.

"You KNOW you need a coversheet on your TPS reports, Richard. That ain't you baby! (woman walks by, says, "Hi Terry") Oh hi Janice! (he turns back to Richard) Motherfu----!!!

"Terrible" Terry Tate, Office Linebacker

The main character in Office Space is berated for leaving off the cover sheet on his TPS reports.

Wow, Fox movies are getting ripped off left and right. I saw a FedEx commercial that ripped off "Cast Away"!

I think it was an obvious homage to Office Space. After it everyone was just giggling about how it slyly referenced Office Space. Even barring the rip-off you claimed, it was probably one of the best commercials of the night

Mmm...okay.
A whole two seconds that someone slipped into a commercial as an in-joke beamed directly to Office Space fans.......is being dissed because they see it as a "rip-off."

Wow, jaded much?

It's pretty obvious that the small segment was an homage to Office Space. Anyone that's seen the movie would have immediately made the association, and 99.9% would have laughed at it. And then there's that .1 percent....
