Am I the only one???...
Am I the only one who doesnt like war movies???
I have a broad taste in movies and I appreciate the great movies from all genres, however I find that I cant get into war movies. I always find the plots slow and tedious. It seems that in every war movie a group of soldiers fight at one location lose a few friends and move on to the next location and the same happens, etc.
There are obviously killings everywhere and I cant seem to care about the characters that die. I have seen war movies like Apocalypse Now, Das Boot, Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, etc and they all drain me and leave me waiting for the end. I try, I tell you but I just cant like them!
One exception might be Full Metal Jacket, which I mildly enjoyed probably because of the first half.
Is there something wrong with me?? Am I in a minority?

There are a lot of good war movies where not too many main characters die, like Bridge on the River Kwai and Patton.
Anyhow, I think there's a lot of great war movies and I enjoy a good number of them, like Apocalypse Now and Saving Private Ryan. Some of them are similar, but hey, they're based on real events.
You're probably in the minority, but I don't think you have anything wrong with you.

I've never gotten into most westerns, with the exception of "Unforgiven." And while I've seen war movies I enjoy, like "Kwai" and "Ryan," there are a lot I've never particularly gotten into. Some genres just don't do it for certain people.

My girlfriend doesn't like war movies or westerns. It's sad, but for every romance she makes me watch I get to make her watch a film of my choice. Heh heh heh.

Only good one's but I love them especially good WW2 movies SPR,BoB,Das Boot you name it,I look at it like true storys because they are and when you watch these movies knowing that it make's it more dramatic I suppose to see what the people that fought for are country for are freedom went through on the front lines.
Even if you dont like War movies give Platoon a shot,if you dont like that then you know to never watch another war movie again,Band of Brothers is great also, its like a history book on WW2.

For me, I hardly ever watch westerns. If I ever do, 95% of the time the film includes John Wayne or Clint Eastwood.
My dad loves westerns and so does my grandparents, but I seem to never get into them. Give me a war film anyday over a western.
Of course, my mother loves Lifetime movies. To each, his own.

You are not the only one...there are at least two of us. Movies like Saving Private Ryan, Windtalkers, etc just leave my ears ringing and my wallet thin. Not a big Western fan either.

I'm not crazy about the newest craze of what I've been calling "meatgrinder" war movies. Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down and Windtalkers (so I've heard) all feature the kind of gore and guts that makes even the most jaded Italian horror movie fan smile.
I know, I know, that's what it's really like, but I just don't want to see it.
I greatly enjoyed and was deeply moved by Band of Brothers, because it was so well written, and was about real people. Sure, there was plenty of violence, but it was subdued enough that it didn't overpower the story.
I prefer war movies to be about real people and events. There's so many stories, I don't see why they have to make something up or embellish to the point that it's no longer real.
As for westerns, that could be a whole thread in itself. Suffice to say I've seen enough westerns with my dad to know that hollywood today just doesn't have the kind of men to put in them anymore.

The only truly good war movies IMO are anti war films. Most recent "war movies" are anti war films in reality. Just like the best western (again, in my opinion) is Unforgiven, that movie essentially is an anti western. it stands against all the things that the traditional western glorifies.
Full metal Jacket, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, all examples of anti-war movies.

What about PLATOON??.
That was as good an anti-war movie as any??
I love all types of war movies..yes some are better than others??
How can you not like BLACK HAWK DOWN??..That was based on real events in Mogadishu Somalia in 1993..
To me knowing these events really happended givesa film more weight than the usual crap that comes out of Hollywood on a weekly basis

I love good war movies. Granted, I'm a military history buff, so I'm picky about the historical accuracy of the movie. I'm the kind of guy that's anal about if they're wearing the right kind of sling for the rifle they're carrying.
Also, after 10 years in the Army, I saw my fair share of real war. So I'm also anal about the look and feel of the action. Yes, I know Panama and the Gulf weren't real "wars", but they sure as hell were real enough for me.
