Box set or actual album?
I was just looking through the new BMG catalog we got & saw the ABBA:Thank You For The Music box set for $24 & Creedence Clearwater set for $36.
So i was wondering since iwas planning to buy the new remastered ABBA albums since i don't have any yet...does the 1995 box set sound good..or do the new cds sound better? + are there tons of great songs that are not in the box set?
Since i don't have any Creedence yet....the box set is a great buy since you get everything & then some.Only the lowest price i could find it at Best Buy & other places was $99. So $36 for the entire set..is a great deal!

Sheesh - go for the Creedence at that price.
I've found buying the (remastered) Abba albums (at $5 a pop) at a local record show to be more satisfying than just picking up a box set.
YMMV.

If you can hold off, they sometimes send you a coupon in your email for free shipping, I get one about once a month. I used one a while back a racked up on box sets. The CCR usually adds about $12.74 for shipping.
The most recent code they sent me is J2P1 and it's for double music points.
<small>Edited to add-you would get 12 points for CCR purchase, 6 more would get you a free CD.

Wow grunter!
I've only found the Abba albums for $11 at lowest at Best Buy,used record shops...which don't seem to have any used ones which i could really save alot of $$$ on then.
Maybe i'll just start slowly buy one at a time. Might as well...try to avoid "Greatest Hits' packages as much as possible. Since i want to hear more than just the same old stuff you can hear anytime on the radio...unless it's a group i don't like at all & only a couple songs..then i may by the GH"s just to have the song(s) if at all that is. Since i try to spend my $$ wisely & only buy albums i like/may like & should have more than 1 good song
I'll definetly get the Creedence set though...now thats a steal!
They also have the Led Zepplin complete box set for $52. Another great price since it seems to keep riseing at Best Buy & places...used to be $100..not bad for a 10 cd complete set..but now is $124+ everywhere!! No thank you...i'll save my $$$ instead, than spending that much on something.
Again since i don't have any Zep yet..i've been wanting to get the box set for years..but the price has always been to high. + unlike other box set's...this is not a GH's package
Yet i think i'll wait on that..since i'm trying to save some $$ right now....but can't resist the Creedence set at that price!

Get the ABBA box set and all their albums, they all sound good. I got the original remastered albums on cd (in the jewel case) and they sound pretty good to me. They did re-release the albums recently (remastered in digipacks with bonus tracks and more in depth liner notes, etc.), but I didn't feel like spending money all over again on them. And yes, the cd's have tons of great songs not in the box set.
Here's what I own:
Ring Ring 1973
Waterloo 1974
ABBA 1975
Arrival 1976
The Album 1977
Voulez Vous 1979
Super Trouper 1980
The Visitors 1981
ABBA Live 1986
ABBA Gold - Greatest Hits 1992
More ABBA Gold 1993
Thank You For The Music - Box Set 1994
You don't seem to want Gold or More Gold. Although More Gold contains a previously unreleased track. Enjoy.

I know...i finnaly learned to just be myself & who gives a crap what others think. I tryed so hard to follow the crowd as a kid,of course they thought anything 'pop' or '70's sucked..& thus i tryed avoiding the stuff..but fell in love when i heard it.
It was'nt until a about 3 or so years ago when i finnaly saw The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert..that i was like "Wow this is awsome music!"..& then the radio stations kept playing Dancing Queen & there was no escape..i'd turn the radio up loud. Then eventually broke down & bought Gold since thats all the stores carried at the time sadly..& now that the actual albums are remeasterd..i want them!
So now i'm free & listen to whatever i like..regardless of what others may think..as long as i like it...thats all that matters

Actually, I think Abba is one of those cheesy bands that sounds pretty good. I remember laughing when Spin magazine put out an alternative record guide and Abba was the first band reviewed (think about that). Elvis Costello was one of the musicians in print
praising Abba. Makes me think I gave my kid sister too much crap for buying "Arrival" when it was out in the 70's.
By the way, those record clubs are awesome for box set deals.

I've got the ABBA box and I think that for $24, you'd be crazy to pass it up. Sure, you could get all the songs and more if you buy the actual albums, but the fourth disc of the box set is loaded with rare gems (though I know some might show up as bonus tracks on the reissued albums). My solution (bearing in mind I'm an ABBA nut) is go ahead and get the box for that super price, and then eventually get the albums.
As for Creedence, that is a MUST!!! Wish I could find good deals like that...

So thats a free shipping code? Excellent!
I think the total bill would be close to $100 with all the shipping they charge per disc.
Anyway i think i will get both box sets. besides Christmas is coming soon & i can ask for some ABBA albums then...though they had better not buy me Gold!!!
Once years ago i asked my Dad to get me some Aerosmith cds. I had Permanent Vacation-Get A Grip + Greatest Hits..which i was getting sick of & wanted the real albums like Toys in the Attic. So i made sure to say get me the 'early' stuff. He ends up getting me Big Ones which is a new GH's cd with songs already on the Aerosmith cds i already have! Well since i didn't want to piss him off,i pretended to be cool with the cd & said thanks.
Then i ended up with a 2nd copy of Big Ones since my Aunt wanted to make up for missing my birthday by taking me to Target to pick out a cd.Well Target does'nt have the greatest cd collection...thus i just picked out Big Ones to get the hell out of there as fast as possible..since my Aunt is annoying since she yacks yacks yacks to the point of you going insane!
I'm not sure if i sold them or destroyed them.Either way...i don't have them anymore,lol..not that i mind.
So i think i will be sure to at least write down a couple album titles & tell him "Go to Best Buy or a music store...don't bother with Target & all that, since they will only have Gold!" & he will take that as "Hmm ok..pick up Gold!"...you just can't win, lol.

Now thinking about my last comment. Could have a Abbot & Costell routine with my Dad over Christmas gifts......
Me - "Ok pick me up some Abba"
Dad- "Any titles or just whatever i find?"
"Ring Ring"
"Who's there?"
"No thats one album title!"
"Waterloo"
"What are you talking about?"
"Arrival"
"Are you going somewhere? Arrive where?"
"No giving you ideas of what albums to buy!"
"Ok i don't understand..this is confusing"
"Well i'll keep it simple then...whatever you do..do NOT buy Gold..anything but Gold"
"Why?"
"I already have that..but would like the real albums now"
"Ok..so no Gold...well i'll get More Gold then!"
walks away in frustration,lmao

Watch out for the compilations "The Definitive Collection" and "Forever Gold". Also, you may want to add two ABBA dvd's to your wish list. They are: "The Winner Takes It All: The ABBA Story" and "ABBA: The Definitive Collection" the former is self-explanatory and the latter contains every single one of their music videos. And I head rumors of the ABBA movie and maybe one or a few of their concerts coming to dvd which I hope happens soon.
