100 Albums You Should Remove from Your CD Collections

I'm just floored by this list. Who the "f" are these people? Or more importantly - who the "f" do they think they are?

While I'm sure the list was compiled mostly with tongue-in-cheek, the fact that anyone - ANYONE - would suggest removing some of these seminal albums from their collection is just out-and-out blasphemy.

Well except for the Dave Brubeck entry - which I whole-heartedly endorse . . .

What do you folks think? Are there actually albums you'd suggest people dis-own because they're no longer in vogue?

Well I got through the first five and my question is: What the eff are these guys smoking?

What the hell??? I own four of the top 5 albums listed (never cared much for Capt. Beefheart). Altogether, I own 43 of these discs, and I don't plan on getting rid of a single one. And his criticism of Wilco and Tweedy as the McCartney to Jay Farrar's Lennon...Well, them's fightin' words.

I think the simple fact that their html sucks too much to work in Mozilla speaks volumes.

Interesting, though pretty silly. Take occasionally-substantiated potshots at critical darlings (U2, Beatles, Beastie Boys) and albums nobody cares about anymore (OK, yeah, I owned the Arrested Development album, too, but I got rid of it myself, oh, about 5 years ago -- does that make me smarter than you, oh Mr. Jaguaro.org?) Their promised 100 Albums You Should Add To Your Collection will be full of albums that few people have ever heard or albums from other critical darlings (but not necessarily the most "popular" albums from those artists).

I currently own 15 albums on the list. I still listen to all of 'em.

And, hey, grunter, Brubeck's Take Five is still eminently listenable.

This pretty much confirms the authors are total idiots. Probably out buying the new Brittney Spears as we speak.

I own 6 of the top 10, plus Lou Reed and Police box sets. Guess I'm a total tool by their reckoning. Guess I also don't really care.

Well, they called Bitches Brew a "shrill, rambling, incoherent mess", so they got at least one thing right.

They're right that I should probably get rid of the Chemical Brothers' album. They kind of got lazy at the end; you won't find many people claiming "The W" or "Black Elvis" are all that good.

I would hate to see the list of their favourite albums, they must supremely suck.

My understanding of this list is that these are not necessarily "bad" albums - just albums that are really overplayed and ones that you have heard a million times over.

I, myself would be fine if I never listened to many of those albums again. Especially most of the classic rock stuff.

Actually, even putting albums from artists like The Replacements and Lou Reed on the list shows that they at least know a little bit more about music than whatever the latest teen pop idol album is. . .

They are pretty much complete morons in my opinion. There are plenty of albums on that list I don't own but want to. Many on that list would fit on tons of people 100 albums you should own.

Anyway.. I don't let other people pick my music for me.

Typical hipster "critics" trying to tell us what's wrong with the music we like, all the while slaughtering many sacred cows. Wow, how novel!

And while I hold many of these albums near and dear to my heart and can shrug off lots of put-downs, they should've never went after the Kinks' "Arthur". It's in my top ten (maybe five) albums of all time, and it's criminally underappreciated and/or ignored (just like the Kinks themselves). Saying "Sgt. Pepper's" overrated is one thing, because everyone is aware of it and its reputation. But suggesting that "Arthur" should be removed from your collection is ridiculous, seeing as how it's probably in nobody's collection to begin with.

I pity some kid who's new to music coming across a site like that, and in an effort to be "cool" actually takes this sh-t seriously! And one more thing... "Tim"? Get your head out of your ass and quit writing about music!

Hey, I love Bitches Brew and there's no way I'm giving up my Complete Bitches Brew Sessions Boxset. This is the Miles Davis album that gets the most play in my player. (although I can see how it might not be everyone's cup of tea)

Yes, I read it before I started the thread. In fact, maybe I should have linked to that intro to begin with - but after reading through it, all I came away with is that these guys are deliberately trying to be provocative.

Expunging these albums from your collection - if you already own them - is preposterous. If there was an equivalent to the AFI "Greatest Films of all Time" for rock albums, many, many of these albums would be on there. To ask someone to part with them is just asinine.

In fact, one could do well if there were starting a classic rock collection to actually use this list as a shopping cheat-sheet.

It is obvious these guys know something about music so I also read their criteria. Complete crap. Once I saw "Tim" by the Replacements in their Top 10 I didn't even want to look at anymore of this list.

Firstly, I own 10 of these discs. Secondly, I would also like to say that I actually agree with most of their picks - but there are some glaringly insane choices on that list:

To name but a few. While I do agree with many of their picks, it's obvious this list is pretty much uber-troll/flame-bait material. Just by some of the posts in this thread it can be safely said that their intention to provoke has well succeeded.

Sigh. I really hate Best/Worst lists.

I can honestly say I think that is one of the worst all time lists ever. I think some of the albums on it are the best albums of all time.

It's not worth the time to dispute this crap.
