Just listened to new RHCP album
I really think Red Hot Chilli Peppers have progressed over the years. The songs on this album have a really cool sound to them and are all very interesting. I think everyone should pick up a copy when it comes out in a couple of weeks. All the tracks seem to flow well together as i thought they did in the last album. It seems a bit more matured than their older works and i think this is a good thing., and their talent really shines through. Ok laterz.

I agree completely, just wonderful wonderful slow and melodic beats and just a mellow album minus a couple of songs which I don't particularly like (By the Way and Throw Out Your television)

preface: rhcp have been one of my absolute favorite bands for 13 years now...
haven't listened to the entire album yet, but so far so good. i do have to say, i don't think anything will top 'Can't Stop' in my mind... old school rhcp funk-rap mixed up with new school rhcp sensitive chorus... great tune.. 'Dosed' is also right up there for me right now..
the only song that has me scratching my head right now is 'On Mercury'.. not sure how i feel about rhcp playing ska..
gonna listen to the rest of it tomorrow, prolly many times.. will post more comments then.. still can't wait till july 9th!

I'm going on 10 years now of RHCP being my favorite band, and I'm getting more worried each day a new song is released.
So far I've only heard By the Way, Midnight, On Mercury, and Zephyr Song. And wow...I like By the way, but the rest is just complete trash so far.
Is there any place I can go to listen to the other songs they've released that I missed?
I'm REALLY disappointed/upset at this point that my favorite band has become soft rock.

dgmayor, overall, yes, it is a mellow album. seems like that's just the general direction they went with on this album. sounds a bit like a carry-over of Californication and john's solo stuff.. while the songs are (mostly) on the mellow side, i don't think you should give up on this one just yet.
if you take a good look at the songs from album to album (since john & chad joined), you'll notice a big change from one to the other, yet the band still has all the acpects from each album in them, and they continue to show them all on each album in one way or another.
first, take the mother's milk > bssm transition.. while mm shows us a little peek of funk (taste the pain, sexy mexican maid), the album is mostly balls to the wall rock n roll. but then comes blood sugar, and it's almost 100% funk-rock. however, we see some mellowness that we hadn't seen too much of before (breaking the girl, i could have lied, under the bridge).
the funk continued in john's absence (aeroplane, walkabout, falling into grace), but we also heard a dark-hardness (warped, shallow) along with some more mellow sensitivity (my friends, tearjerker).
when john came back on californication, we had a mix of everything, but a new addition to the balls to the wall rock songs was a sensitive chorus or verse (paralell universe, easily, this velvet glove).. we had some funk-rock still (around the world, get on top, i like dirt, purple stain), and also more of the mellow side (scar tissue, road trippin', savior, californication).. my favorite aspect of rhcp - funk - was obviously starting to diminish, but californication is still a great album, and the band is still incredible live.
while i haven't listened to (all of) BTW enough to give it a total rundown, i have heard enough to know that it is a pretty mellow album for rhcp.. Can't Stop is definitely my favorite song on there - very old-school rhcp sounding, with the new-style sensitive chorus... and Dosed, while mellow, is absolutely beautiful.
the band experimented with harmonies a lot on Californication, and they were great. you'll notice a lot more on BTW, and they're sounding wonderful. Throw Away Your Television is more upbeat, but a little on the dark side... reminds me a little of otherside... while This Is The Place is also pretty dark, and very reminicent of This Velvet Glove...
give it a chance, and listen to the band's commentary on rhcp.com for each song... i've been recording the songs/commentary as they're released each day from rhcp.com, and would be more than happy to send you the ones you've missed. the quality's not great, but they're doing an ok job of holding me over till july 9th.. drop me an email..

Well, since my last post I've found the entire CD and listened to as much as I could stomach. Mainly bits and pieces of the songs. I'd get disgusted by one and move on to another.
Sorry, can't do it. Did you at all listen to RHCP before Mother's Milk? If you wan't RHCP and funk, sit down and listen to Freaky Styley. I mean hell, George Clinton produced the damn thing. Doesn't get any funkier than that
Sure the band changed a bit from album to album, but not this drastically in my opinion. I can't even say this is a mellow album...the new stuff just reminds me of the Goo Goo Dolls or something, I dunno. It's just not RHCP.
Finally, I'm going to have to disagree with you that Can't Stop is very old school RHCP rap sounding. Personal opinion, I suppose, but I just don't think it's anything like their older stuff.
I'm not condemning you for liking their new style, but I just can't accept it, and it's really breaking my heart more than it probalby should.

give it a chance...

yes, i listen to all rhcp before MM, but like i said, my comments above were based on the current lineup - no hilel/cliff/jack.
i will say this - i'm very much looking forward to picking up all the singles, with the extra non-album songs.. i mean, have you ever heard 'Stretch'?? how did that not make it onto OHM?? i also love 'How Strong' and 'Instrumental #3' from Californication... it amazes me how some of these songs get cut!
anyways, i still suggest that you listen to the band's commentary about each song. believe me, listening to a few of those songs, i was like, 'what the hell were they thinking?' but after listening to the commentary, i was like, 'well, ok'...
all that said, i will admit that i still haven't listened to it enough to get a solid opinion of the whole thing.

I've got the 'By The Way' single with 'Time' and their cover of 'Teenager In Love'. If that's any indication of other singles from this CD, I'll pass.
I'll definately agree with you about 'How Strong' (listening to it now actually due to your mention of it
)
I'm just not overly thrilled with Anthony's singing/voice on the new CD either.
I dunno, I'll shut up now

I can't wait to listen to this entire album. I've only heard By The Way thus far, and love it!
RHCP are probably my most favorite (current) band. Californication was a beautiful album and I'm sure this one will be too! Can't wait to DL the rest of the songs!

Not threadcrapping, but asking. Going only by radio singles, I like RHCP up until stuff like Californication which truthfully grates on my last nerve like a no anesthetic dental work. Am I missing something by not hearing the whole album? Older stuff like Give it Away and whatnot I like, but the recent stuff sounds to me like a completely different (and worse band)
I feel the same about Aerosmith if it helps. Up until Crazy/Crying/The Armageddon Song, they're cool. From that point on they blow goats. Am I missing something?
