I am shipping a PS2 from Oklahoma to California later today. How would you recommend that I do this?

I am planning on shipping it in the PS2 box wrapped in brown paper through USPS insured. I am worried about the laser getting damaged. How should I send it? Is there a special "fragile" shipping method that I can do?

I would send it UPS or Fed Ex, but I know that Fed Ex will want me to ship it without the paper so I don't want to really go that route.

What do you guys think is the best thing to do in my situation ?

Take it to mailboxes Etc and have them pack it with packing worms inside of another large brown box. I shipped a laptop computer to New Zealand this way(computer inside original box which was inside a thick box packed with packing worms) and the guy said it arrived in great shape. I'd go with that. You don't even have to ship it from there if you don't want to. I'd say go to Mailboxes Etc and have them pack it nice and tight and then ship it UPS or FedEx(simply due to the size).

put the PS2 box into a box that is 2" larger on each side( so if the dimensions are 16x12x12 now you need 20x16x16). pack using styrofoam popcorn and make sure the PS2 is not moving at all before you seal the box. Put roughly 2" of popcorn on the bottom and then center the PS2 in the middle. then fill around and on top of it with more popcorn. this should give you around 2" around each side of the PS2. so the bottom is sealed then just close the top and holding it closed try moving the box and listen for slippage. if it moves around put more popcorn into the box then try again. once it is nice and tight. seal the box. DO NOT USE BROWN PAPER WRAPPING!

This is only even accepted by USPS anymore since if the paper is torn off where is your label?? that is right gone. so use the plain box and affix any labels to it directly. I would ship it UPS since the rates will be the lowest and if you do what I suggested it should arrive fine. Go directly to UPS to get counter rates. Mailbox Etc and other shipping centers charge a surcharge which will add to your shipping costs. If you do have Maibox Etc pack the box(I would not since they charge a lot to pack a box) if they do not allow for 2" on each side tell them to do it.
