At work yesterday (video game related)
I was bored at work and was looking up a few things. I walked around the warehouse for a couple of hours and found xbox controllers (official and Interact? or was it Mad Catz?), dvd playback kit, rfu adapter, memory unit (I thought it had a hard drive for saves??), and an audio visual kit. The packaging is pretty nice, all green in a sort of triangle package. I couldn't find the actual hardware though, but I suspect it's not in my warehouse. If anyone has the upc to the xbox hardware, I could look up how much we pay for it. I looked up ps2, we pay $871 a case (3)!! We pay almost 291 a unit, a lousy markup %. Also I could find no indication of any lower priced ps2. I found three different item numbers for two different upc's, and all three were $299.96.

Most gaming manufacturers (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) actually lose money on each system. It cost's them more to manufacture them than they sell them for. So it's not surprising that they don't discount them very much to retailers. On the other hand, the software (games) have quite a heafty mark up. I would be very interested to know exactly what retailers pay for the games. Do you have any info on that?

Yeah, games were between 38.50 (Sony's games) to 41 for EA games like Madden 2002.
As for selling stuff early, I have no idea. I work in a distribution warehouse, we don't resell anything there, we just sort out items and send to the store. Like on October 9, we received 863 cases of playstation 2's. We act like a storage until it is bought from the store. When the store sells 3 of them (amount in a case), a case is reordered from our warehouse. Sounds like not a lot of work, huh? Well we actually ship 200,000 cases of various items
a day on the weekdays and 140,000 on the weekend.
Thunderball-
I don't think I could get away with it, even if I wanted to.

Anyway, this is good stuff. If you plan on selling stuff (XBOX GC) early, let us know.
