Need Some Help From Long-time Gamers

Hi, I was looking to see if anyone on the board could help me out
with a presentation I have for school (college). I'm a media major and I have to do a one hour presentation covering whatever
aspects of history/evolution/future of console gaming. I am not limited really in any aspects, I can cover whatever I want and bring in anything (provided I have it). The trick, however, is to make in interesting, interactive, and have everyone in the room somewhat attentive.

I was thinking of including definitely something regarding the rating system, as it is/was a form of censorship so that always stirs interest. I could include some of the offending clips from Night Trap and MK.

Other things I was thinking of was FF7 for PSX, since it was one of the big sellers as well as had the amazing FMVs.

I was thinking of including at least one title from every genre.
What are the defining titles of video game history? What would a video game presentation be incomplete w/o mentioning?

Any help/input would be appreciated.

let's see

Well if your looking to keep it in the vein of video game violence and the evoloution of the rating system, begin with Night Trap and MK I, also include some of the games of today that still have people scratching there heads like House of The Dead 2, heck even Doom, and Quake. Theres also a VERY obscure title called "Time Killers" it took the violence that was found in Mortal Kombat but put a cartoonish spin on things.

You can also include MK 2 as how the rating system was embraced and enforced, although not always enforced it did enlighten parents to what there children were playing. A very good example of this is Conkers Bad Fur day on the N64. Just a few thoughts hope i helped.

Another random post from your friendly nedighborhood

I would definitely mention Wolfenstein & Doom, the two founders of the FPS craze (Wolfenstein came first). FF7 is a good choice for RPGs, since it brought them to the mainstream. You might also want to mention Tomb Raider and/or Metal Gear Solid...both games helped push videogaming into the mainstream. Tomb Raider especially, as the merchandising on the series is incredible (The Lara Croft coffee table book, the movie, the toys, etc). Resident Evil introduced everyone to Survival Horror, so that too, might be worth a nod.
