Question:

I had the memory of a computer game lingering in my head for a while now. It was released in the 1991-93 time frame, at the time I purchased it for the Mac but it might well have been available for DOS/Windows.

The game was set in the Pacific during WWII and was a grand strategy simulation giving you command over land, air, and sea forces right down to the individual squadron, regiment, and task force. On the Mac version their was a small quicktime movie (bottom center, 160X120) of old footage that played every time one of your squadrons took off or a land battle commenced. The level of detail was very high.

I can not recall the title but I remember is being a famous game designer's "Victory at Sea", "Pacific War", "Pacific In Flames" or things of that nature. I came across a recent version of SSI classic "Pacific War" published by a new firm but this did not seem to be the same game.

I purchased this in ~1992 and had it for about 6 months before growing so frustrated with major bugs that I called the publisher. The company that published this title either went out of business or was purchased by the developer of Harpoon and the company sent me a copy of Harpoon II for my trouble

Please shed some light on this mystery to me...

Thanks

Hmm.

You might want to check out Home of the Underdogs for two reasons:

1) They've got a small "Macintosh" section that features some of the most popular Mac games. You might be able to identify your game by looking through this section.

2) They've got a HUGE "PC wargame" section. You can browse through all these titles and you'll probably find your game, if they made a PC version.
