it's been making some extra grinding noises for some time, but now it won't read a disk anymore. I've tried cleaning it, but to no avail. I just get the white screen and then the file options and stuff.
If I buy a new DC, does that mean I can't use my phantasy star online character anymore? I'm going to have a breakdown if I lost 260 hours of gameplay and basically every rare in the game.

i called sega, they were less than helpful. i got it at the launch so the warranty was not an option. I just bought a new one. the old one wil make a nice paperweight. at least I was able to keep my PSO charcter.

You were able to keep your PSO character? I was under the impression that they were only playable on a single machine and if the machine broke you were just screwed. That would be most excellent news if they would allow you to switch the character over to a new machine if need be.

just in case you need to know, all you need to do is call sega and they'll delete your codes, so you can reuse them on the new DC. They used to not to this, but they do now, so you're not screwed anymore (beyond buying a new dreamcast)
