All store exclusives and freebies - 2/17/08 to 2/23/08
These weekly threads are for the posting and discussion of that particular week's store exclusives and freebies.
These lists will likely be incomplete until Thursday or so, since DVDs are released on Tuesday and one of us needs to visit all the stores to confirm things.
Links to the master list and to the previous and next week's thread are below.
Volunteers needed: I regularly go to Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, and Walmart; but don't visit the other stores every week. If you work at or regularly go to the FYE/TWEC chains, Costco, Borders, K-mart/Sears, Barnes and Noble, Blockbuster, Hot Topic, or any other store that has DVD exclusives; I'd appreciate any updates you could give us.

Target will have a bonus disc for MOTU. (Should be the initial episodes combined into a movie as originally shown.) In the Best Buy ad there appears to be a Best Buy sticker on the MOTU box, but it's too small to read. There is no notification of something exclusive for it. Also, I read somewhere that there is an error on one of the MOTU episodes, and I think there will be a replacement thing happening.

True, Best Buy does have a Masters of the Universe exclusive -- a box designed to house all 3 volumes of the series. Volume 1 comes shrinkwrapped inside, alongside a cardboard "filler" to keep it from sliding around. Due to its greater width, the box functions much like those of previous MOTU releases, with a nifty little Eternia scene on the spine.
Interestingly, Best Buy is simultaneously stocking the standard edition of MOTU Volume 1 as well, under a different item number and at a different price. Regular price for the standard edition is $16.99, seemingly not on sale at all. Regular price for the boxed edition is $19.99, on sale this week for $17.99.
With regard to the exclusive bonus boxes, I will forewarn everyone that they are EXTREMELY thin and fragile. You're going to have your work cut out for you if you want to find one that isn't already scratched, dented or outright crushed. I had to ask a BB staffer to bring the overstock out of the back since the ones on the floor were looking pretty sorry (on their first day of sale, no less).
To make matters even worse, literally HALF of the copies I picked through had been sliced across the spine by whomever carelessly opened the shipping carton with a box cutter. I encounter this problem nearly every week and it has by now become quite the impediment to finding certain titles in nice condition. How these people don't know NOT to damage the product when opening the containers they arrive in, I'll never understand.
Okay, rant over. Now to go watch He-Man do his thang...

I picked up the Target one, but did not check Best Buy. I'll take a gander tomorrow. I hope I can find a decent one. (I still have to finish picking up the original MOTU series.) For those who are interested (all six of you), The Target exclusive is "He-Man: The Beginning", which is the first three episodes combined to make a "movie". It's got a Spanish audio track as well.

Yeah, I picked up the Target edition, too. I'm always a sucker for gimmicks like this.
Curiously, has anybody had any luck finding this title at Wal-Mart? I'm just wondering if if they had an exclusive on it. The electronics dept. of my local Wal-Mart looked like a bomb hit it and and everything was in disarray (supposedly for some annual re-set). Nobody knew where anything was and MOTU was nowhere to be found. Anyway, just wondering.
