The Simpsons Season 11 ???

Fox usually released 2 season sets on DVD per year of the Simpsons (one in August, another one in December). For some reason we only got season 10 on August of 2007 and no season 11 on December. We are almost in February and the hasn't been any announcement of more releases. Does anyone know something about pending future releases of the Simpsons sets?

not sure how far along with special features they are, Not sure anyone has a legit word on that. Good chance the writers strike can hold it out, since they are not approving a lot of stuff for broadcast or dvd at the moment.

The tenth season was when 'The Simpsons' really started its decline, and I'm sure sales for the 10th season DVD declined as well. I was sure FOX Home Entertainment was going to release the eleventh season on DVD, the same day 'The Simpsons: Movie' was released (12/18/07). Since the movie did great at the Box Office, and had pretty positive reviews from critics, a lot of people went out and bought the DVD (of course a lot of people probably bought the Full Screen version), and I thought FOX was going to release the 11th season DVD, same day, so it could sell better. FOX, like you said, has been pretty consistent with the DVD season releases of 'The Simpsons', and not getting a set released in December was actually sort of surprising.

Hopefully 'The Simpsons' doesn't turn out to be another show in limbo for DVD releases.
so true, i still would get season 11 though

The question is, with the writer's strike still ongoing, will it have an effect on the audio commentaries? (provided that they haven't finished recorded one for each episode) Because I'm really interested to hear them try to defend some of the most maligned episodes in the history of The Simpsons. If they're anything like the commentary of season 9's "The Principal and the Pauper", then they'll be worth the price of admission.

Even though this is the season I think I switched off of the show on TV for a few years, I'd still pick it up. At least for the right price. I wouldn't pay $40.00 for this, but if I could snag it on one of the $19.99 deals that would be Ok.

Yeah, remember there was some extra time between 5 and 6, when they were deciding the next five seasons' packaging.

I actually didn't pick up season 10 (and I have all the others). Not that I wouldn't enjoy them, but I've probably got enough to satisfy my Simpsons' fix whenever I need it.

I got a lot of the Simpsons sets as gifts, so I have like half regular sets half heads which looks awful. Oh well.

How the hell do the writers have any say on what goes to DVD?

The writers are the core of The Simpsons, and believe it or not, they're very active in the DVD releases. Without their participation on the DVD, there wouldn't be any supplements.

Since the WGA is currently on strike, they will not do anything for the DVD's.

To tell you truth I don't care about the supplements I just want the episodes. The only supplement I enjoy are the commercials.

I guarantee you at least half of the buyers of these titles buy them for the commentaries, if Fox released a set without them, not only would they sell comparatively poorly, but it would garner some SERIOUS ill will with the writing staff that could damage future relations

Yep. I buy them on release date if they have commentaries on all the episodes. If they were to release them bare-bones I would probably still but it when it hits a sale and I could find it for less than $15 . So, yes the commentaries on this (and all releases) are very important to me at least.

That's HIGHLY overestimating it. It wouldn't be more than a fifth of the buyers, if that.

The average joe, many of them fans of The Simpsons, and many of the same which only care for the main feature itself... will not care about the commentaries. I buy a lot of DVD's, and I personally don't have the time in my life to waste away listening to commentaries on stuff I've already seen. I want to move along and watch the next thing.

If it doesn't have any inserts, they probably shouldn't even bother.

If I've seen the episodes already a few times each, I'd rather watch it with commentary than yet again without commentary.

I think the movie put the season set DVDs on hold. Now with the movie out of the way, I'd expect to see more season sets in the future.

For me, it's really gonna depend on the quality of the bonus stuff, if any. Aside from a handful of episodes, season 11 was pretty lackluster, and even those good episodes are hardly worth watching again and again. The commentaries have gotten progressively worse, as Mike Scully is boring to listen to (compared to the other showrunners). Still, I'll be interested to hear if he or any of the other writers will own up to some of most criticized episodes coming up in season 11.

That being said, no more buying Simpsons seasons at more than $30 from this point on.

I'm done at this point, unless I can grab newer sets for about $10 or less. That is about the value of the laughs I'll be getting from later seasons...
