American Gangster: Jay-Z's victory lap?

Bought this album today. Still spinning it, but so far I'm much happier with this than I was with Kingdom Come. I liked that one mildly, but it didnt stick.

This is great. Jay playing games with his breath control, speed, flow. Good beats.

What do you think?

Gave it a quick spin on the ride home from Best Buy. I think it will require time to grow on me, but I already am digging some the tracks.

I too, was also disappointed with Kingdom Come.

I thought Kingdom come was better than the black album. This album sounds different than any of his other albums, which all sounded alot alike. "please allow me to re-introduce myself"

As someone who dislikes rap pretty vehemently, I can stand Jay Z for the most part. So, that's a pretty big compliment from me.

I think this one is solid. I liked about half of Kingdom Come, but I'd put it up with Blueprint 2 as one of his weaker releases (Blueprint 2 being one of the biggest disappointments I can remember)... however, I think this is probably almost on par with The Blueprint which still stands as his one of his best records.

American Gangster is not even close to the Blueprint, please stop saying so. It is an improvement over the last album though.

I'd rank his albums:

1. The Blueprint
2. Reasonable Doubt

gap

3. The Black Album

gap

4. Vol.2
5. American Gangster
6. Vol.3

gap

7. Vol.1

HUGE GAP

8. The Dynasty Roc La Familia

HUMONGOUS GAP

9. The Blueprint 2
10. Kingdom Come

The last three are an abomination to mankind

What? I like Vol. 2 mildly (more of a collection of singles to me than a true album) but American Gangster kills it.

I am loving American Gangster. I have had Fallin and ROC Boys on repeat for the last 2 days.

American Gangster is fantastic. I wasn't as disappointed with Kingdom Come as everyone else was, but this is a much more cohesive, skillful album.

what I like best about the lullabye album is that they haven't changed any of the song titles. So your newborn can sleep peacefully to the sounds of "Jigga That N-gga" or "Big Pimpin'"
