I cannot wait to finally see Berlin Alexanderplatz. The minor controversy concerning the brightness of the restoration will not prevent me from pre-ordering it as soon as it becomes available at DVDPlanet.

Is that the most ever charged for a single film. This set does look nice though and the
movie sounds interesting but that is way too much for a blind buy.

Already have the old Lady Vanishes and the new one doesn't look impressive enough to double dip.

Meh. More Kurosawa.

And gotta love more Kurosawa.

It is 15 hours though. Just think of it as paying for something like a Ken Burns doc or a couple of seasons of the Sopranos.

Yay! More Kurosawa! And Bergman! Those two are must-owns for me.

"Berlin Alexanderplatz" is hugely pricey, but somewhat understandably so. It's something I'll consider getting at some point. Whether I'll actually ever watch it or not is another matter entirely... Though it is great to see that they included the original 1931 film version.

I love Hitchcock, but "The Lady Vanishes" has never been one of my favorites. I already own the previous Criterion release, so I'll probably pass on it.

Yep, I did read that back in June. That is why I referred to it as a minor controversy. People should be reassured by the fact that the original DP supervised the restoration.

Pretty good month, not quite as exciting as October but good nonetheless. I was really hoping for Salo.

The MSRP for Shoah is $149.99. It is four discs and nine and a half hours in length.

We'll probably get it in December, since it would make an excellent Christmas present

When is Last Emperor scheduled for release?

Well, according to this Video Business article, it will be released this year. Guess we'll have to see what December brings.

I hope December brings more than just two releases like most years.

Berlin will probably cost around $64.00 from DVD Planet during the December sale. The Cassavetes box, also list priced at $124.95, is $81.22, so I'm using that as a guideline. I'm assuming Lady Vanishes will come in a single-sized case like their other recent 2 disc sets, so I can replace it in the Hitchcock box set.

Yikes. That's an awesome month. Drunken Angel and Sawdust and Tinsel are definites. I'll probably snatch up The Lady Vanishes somewhere down the line, as well.

I've noticed that it appears as though the basic retail price for any CC film has now become $39.95, even for the Drunken Angel which is a single disc, non-bonus-rich title. At least I'd expect a multitude of bonuses at that price unless they're just trying to raise the bar for their line (I know that restoration costs aren't cheap).

For the most part, nothing's changed the last few years regarding Criterion's pricing structure. $39.95 for either two discs or one disc plus commentary. $29.95 for one disc titles without commentary.

Awesome. I loved Lady Vanishes but I didn't buy it yet. Good thing I held out.

I almost bought the previous Criterion release last weekend. I might have to wait out for this new release.

The general rule of thumb seems to be if it has an audio commentary it's $39.95 even if there are no other extras.

and for those who like to keep track, an exception to that rule is The Most Dangerous Game.

Berlin is a must buy in my book (need to get some stuff together to ebay for extra money), love the Sawdust cover, and hopefully my library will get Drunken and Lady Vanishes for me to check out. It's been mentioned many times but this year has been fantastic.
