Unable to edit post
I have been updating the first post in a thread almost daily since last May:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=465494
Today I find that I am unable to edit it. When I try to "preview" or "save" the changes I get the following error messages:
1. Please complete both the subject and message fields. Press the back button, correct the problem and try again.
2. The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 3 characters.
This makes no sense, the post is thousands of characters long and has both title and message fields filled.
Even more strange, I have no trouble posting in or editing my posts in other threads.
Any ideas? I'd really like to avoid having to start another thread, get it stickied, and all that.

I'm having the same problem you are. I don't know what the problem is.

This morning the problem has happened again: I can't edit my older, long post listed above, but I can edit a short post that I posted yesterday. What gives?

I'm having a problem with Firefox and seeing the "post reply" "post new thread" "quote", etc...buttons. It opens fine in an IE tab or through IE, just not in Firefox 2.0.0.1.

I'm still having trouble posting and editing posts. I was FINALLY able to post a new trade thread several days ago after trying for several days. I have been unable to edit it for the past couple of days now as I still get this message:
1. Please complete both the subject and message fields. Press the back button, correct the problem and try again.
2. The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 3 characters.
I have tried on different computers as well as using Internet Explorer and Firefox. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

^I had the same problem again yesterday, for the third time. I find that the following day I am able to edit the post again normally. And, indeed, editing worked fine today.
Weird.
Weird.

I am having problems editing my Exchange thread post as well. The same error comes up for me. I've found that if I actually cut down the size of my post, it makes it through the preview stage. Is there a limit on the size of posts?

The problem is back again for me today. If the pattern continues editing will work fine this afternoon or tomorrow. Rather annoying.

I was able to "fix" my exchange thread by splitting it up into two posts, but there still doesn't seem to be any explanation as to why I couldn't edit my first post to put everything in it like it was before.

Darn! I've been trying to do a huge edit of a long post. Did a lot of work on it, tried to save, got the error message, lost all my work.
Hours later, did a test edit and it saved fine. Now confident, I re-did my huge edit, tried to save, bam!, error is back, lost all my work again.
The bright side: I live in a free country, have a great job, and belong to an otherwise great forum!

^For my long post, which has complex formatting, I update it in Word and then copy and paste the updated version into the DVD Talk editor. That way I don't have to worry about losing my work if the edits fail to take (or if the thread gets deleted).

Good point lizard, I should probably do that also. I finally realized that, at a minimum, I need to save my "definitive" thread master posts just in case I someday accidently delete the thread or some other disaster occurs.

On a related note, has anyone noticed that with firefox, when you add bold or something similar (the highlight and click button method) while editing a post, it shoots you back up to the top of the post? Works fine in IE, but makes massive editing in mozilla quite sucky.
