I actually think its not such a bad list, even though it includes my favorite film of all time (2001) and another in my top 10 (Nashville).

I especially agree with the picks of A Beautiful Mind, Clerks, An American in Paris, Forrest Gump & Moonstruck.

Any thoughts?

I agree with about half the list, but where the hell are Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, and Memento?

Interesting list. I haven't seen all these movies but do agree with a few.

I have no problem with that list. Especially in regards to Easy Rider, Clerks, and Mystic River.

As lists go, I guess its as good as any...I will agree with A Beautiful Mind, American Beauty, Monster's Ball, and Moonstruck.

100% correct...totally overrated.

EVERY highly rated movie is overrated. Where's Citizen Kane, Goodfellas et al? Any movie will sink under the weight of enough hype.

I agree with them all except for Clerks. Anyone who has worked that type of job at that point in their life can relate, especially to the b.s. customer's.

Now how about the most OVERRATED movie magazine?

Yeah these films aren't that highly rated in the first place. Moonstruck? I never hear anything about that film. I don't see how it could be overrated.

I think PREMIERE thinks that because a movie won awards (notably Oscars) that everyone rates them highly...I don't know what world their writers live in if they think THAT! Even us lowly forum dwellers know that the Oscars don't reflect critical praise/moviegoer popularity the majority of the time...

Out of this group, I think these can stand up under just about any amount of praise/overpraise:

An American in Paris
Gone With the Wind
The Wizard of Oz

... just watch them. Just my opinion, of course.

I can understand the inclusion of this, but I think Saving Private Ryan should be on that list. Highly overrated. It had one good 24 minute scene and that's it.

If you actually read the article, it comes off more as magazine filler with the staff than an actual researched and considered piece.

I wouldn't take it seriously. Premiere knows well and good that lists these days grab attention.

This list appears to be made up mostly of either movies that generally aren't rated very highly (at least not anymore) but did win an Oscar, or movies that really are as good as everyone says.

I would say Nashville, Jules and Jim, and (especially) 2001: A Space Odyssey are still rated very highly by critics and film aficionados. The others have either fallen a bit in critical estimation or were only popular with the Academy, mainstream filmgoers, and 'pop' critics like Jeffrey Lyons and Gene Shalit.

I wonder how Mystic River will hold up in a decade? I loved it when it came out. Will it age as gracefully as The Unforgiven?

I only take offense to a few of those titles being on that list, namely:
2001: A Space Odyssey and Gone With the Wind

and somewhat also:
Jules and Jim and The Red Shoes

2001: A Space Odyssey?
Gone With the Wind? Nashville? Get out of here.

With those choices I wonder what made them stop from putting on Citizen Kane.
