SNL with Ashton Kutcher 05/03/03

Nothing terrible. There were some good sketches, none great though. Kutcher was an energetic host. Best sketch was the teacher catching all his students cheating, and the bit with Tracy Morgan and Dean Edwards threatening A.K. and then Lorne Michaels.

Sketches
Opening with George Bush on the USS Lincoln

Monologue with A.K. in his skivvies

Count Chocula Silver for seniors

Jarrett's Room - Same pot jokes, but A.K. was good as an Icelandic student.

Madonna Interview w/ Matt Lauer - Poehler does a dead-on impression of Madonna. She has her vocal pattern down.

Teacher accuses class of plagiarizing papers from the internet

Weekend Update - Salt Lake City, Utak was named as the most generous city in America. The last place city? Kick-a-Hobo, Arkansas.

The Falconer - He faces.....The Muskrateer! Hilarious seeing the falcon puppet and the muskrat puppet battling it out via potato sack races, Scrabble, Rockem Sockem Robots, etc.

Morgan & Edwards harass A.K. - I can't remember the last time I saw Edwards do so much.

Politics Today talk show - Darrell Hammond's only appearance of the show.

Death Row with doowop group - The inmates were expecting 50 Cent, but they instead got doowop group 50's Ent.

Investment commercial - This was on earlier in the season. Not sure if it should count toward sketch totals for that reason.

Cast Appearances
Parnell - 4 sketches (opening, monologue, classroom, investment)

Rudolph - 4 sketches (monologue, WU, Politics, investment)

Fallon - 5 sketches (Chocula, Jarrett, WU, Death Row, investment)

Dratch - 3 sketches (Chocula, classroom, investment)

Forte - 5 sketches (Chocula, WU, Falconer, Death Row, investment)

Sanz - 1 sketch (Jarrett)

Myers - 4 sketches (Jarrett, Madonna, classroom, investment)

Richards - 1 sketch (Jarrett - really just a cameo)

Poehler - 4 sketches (Madonna, classroom, Politics, investment)

Armisen - 4 sketches (Madonna, WU, Politics, Death Row, investment)

Edwards - 3 sketches (Madonna, Harassing AK, investment)

Kattan - 3 sketches (WU, Death Row, investment)

Morgan - 4 sketches (WU, Harassing AK, Politics, Death Row)

Hammond - 1 sketch (Politics - why does he even bother coming in to work?)

Honk!

Ashton did a good job with what was given to him

The teacher sketch was the sketch that was funny.

The political sketch with the people who didn't finish high school could be something funny if they had talented writers.

The SARS part of weekend update with the singing might be the worst thing I've ever seen during update.

Anyone want to bet we have a whole sketch with Adrian Brody about the kiss he gave Halle at the oscars.

I can already picture his monologue with him giving long kisses to several cast members. That will probably be the whole joke.

He was mentioned on the "Wake Up, Wakefield!" sketch a few weeks back, perhaps we'll see one of those next week as well.

Honk!

I agree that the teacher skit was really funny. "Hello, Associated Press, I was wondering if you had an employee by the name of..."

Why did the bring that back? I remember when they did it last time, with tax laws or something. It wasn't that funny, so why do it again? Kinda creepy, since the guy without the glasses used to write on "Friends".

The episode was ok. It wasn't really that funny, but I was distracted most of the episode, so I didn't care too much.

Doesn't this whole season of SNL felt like the casts and the writers took like 5 days off and come up with all the materials on Friday and then tape it on Saturday?

Just gives you the feeling that SNL as whole has no peparation and didn't spend enough time to really create something new. It's like writing a major paper the day before it's due.

Do like I do, grade the show on a curve.
Instead of asking yourself, "Was the show funny?",
you should ask, "Was the show funny compared to other SNL shows this season?"
You'll find the show gets much higher marks that way.

Honk!

Talk about damning with faint praise.

And, Jesus, how hard can it be for them to find a musical guest that doesn't suck? Screw all of this lame-assed hip-hop r&b crap already.

Just drop that part of the show. Music sucks these days, anyhow.

Liza Minelli and her husband are a strange-looking pair. Supposedly, he's gay but don't let anyone know I told ya.

I didn't watch last week but I trust you guys when you say it sucked.
