Stopped into Costco today with my $10 off TV boxsets coupon and Seasons 1 and 2 were sold out and they had 3, 4, and 5.

Rats.

I'll try back later this week (but I doubt they'll get more).

Season 1 was great. And the cool thing about the first 12 episodes is that it actually is VERY close to really being real time, unlike now where everything in LA is 5 minutes away.

Skip season one? I'm guessing your friend thinks season four is the best?

Only a fool would want you to skip season 1.

If you must skip a season, skip season 3. I say that was the weakest season by far.

And, yes, season 1 was the best.

I really liked 4. The lack of ridiculous subplots with Kim was refreshing.

oh my, the first season is brilliant. It's the only one I watched as it aired. The others I caught on DVD. There are other seasons I enjoyed just as much, but I think S1 is the most plausible, and it's just essential 24.

Season 3 was the weakest, but it did have
Spoiler:
Jack putting a cap in Ryan Chappelle
It gets bonus points for that.

More bonus points that you wouldn't want to miss, especially if you've watched the first 2 seasons:
Spoiler:
Jack finally deals out payback to Nina!
"You don't have any more useful information, do you?"
"Yes, I do"
"No, you don't"

I think that, at this point, calling me a "fan" of the show would be very inaccurate. Having given up on season 2 at a much earlier point than I gave up on season 1, I find that I agree with the majority in that IMO S1 is superior. I've come to the conclusion that I really just dislike this show, and therefore my views on it should be disregarded, with the following exceptions:

1. Jack Bauer is, indeed, one badass motherfucker.
2. While Elisha Cuthbert is incredibly hot, Kim Bauer is such an annoying character that it's just not worth bothering with...

With the semester over and grades and reports turned in, I sat down Saturday (12/15) and started watching "24: Day 1"...

... and I just finished watching it a few minutes ago.

24 episodes in 5 days... wow! Call me a couch potato.

I must say that I enjoyed it. Well, most of it... some of the characters started to get on my nerves (Mrs. Palmer, Keith, George, etc.) but in the end it could be overlooked. They needed to drive the story somehow. I think that it laid a good foundation for the characters that matter (Jack, Kim, Nina, Sen. Palmer, and George). Can't wait to see what the other seasons have to offer.

Costco has the first 5 seasons in a special case with a CTU t-shirt and a book for $160 (it was $40 off a bit ago, but I missed it) and I'm trying to get my wife to get it for me for Christmas... but I doubt it.

I borrowed the first season from my cousin, but he doesn't have the other ones. So here's hoping Santa grants my wish.

I've got three weeks until school starts again. I could knock a few more seasons out.

Don't know how much of a collector you are, but remember if you don't get these to buy, you can rent them all through Netflix or Blockbuster and probably save a great deal of money.

But if you love them, then buy them. I proudly own all seasons except 6.

Would you agree?

UPDATE: I finished watching Season 1 today (12/19/07).
Wow, 12 months to the date... that's 2 eps per month

The first 5 seasons are routinely on sale for about $20 each, so $160 seems kinda high. Target seems to price them that low every few weeks.

Agreed. I barely made it through S5 and I stopped watching S6 after about the 8th episode. I probably won't even bother with the show anymore. But plowing through the first 3 seasons in about 2 weeks was awesome.

Going only by the topic title, that's the absolute worst advice I've ever heard about 24.

Personally I think that Season One is the strongest season...
