2.5 stars from the Chicago Sun Times, who used a substitute reviewer in Ebert's place

Hoping to go see this tonight. I was excited to see Stellan Skarsgard in it. I think he did a fantastic job in King Arthur, although it doesn't look like he's a big part of the movie. You only see him for a second in the teaser and not at all in the trailer.

The tomatometer rating is so vague and arbitrary that it's pointless. Ignore that silly rating. The place is only good for finding reviews. The rating itself is meaningless, for any film. Heck, some of the reviews for many films on that site are mislabaled. For the last 3 days the rating on the front page was different than the rating on the film's review page.

I am really siked about this film, so I really don't care what the reviewers have and are going to say about this - they ain't gonna persuade me from not seeing it. I am a little annoyed that I'll have to make a trek out to Sterling Virginia to see this in DLP Digital projection.

Well, the ride is one of the most efficant of the park. It could do about 3,000 people per hour. So the line was pretty stretched out there (all the way to the beginning of mainstreet) but it took about 50 minutes to get on.

Well, POTC2 is now setting at 55% at rottentomatoes, based on 48 positive/39 negative reviews. This will still open huge, but I wonder how much legs this will have.

You guys still quoting that silly tomatometer rating?

It'll make 300+ million domestically. Worst case scenario is still well past 250 million in my opinion. I'll also bet public opinion won't be nearly as mixed as critical opinion is. I don't see those that enjoyed the first film, not enjoying this one too. Some will, but the vast majority won't.

Critical opinion won't even have an effect on this film's box office. It is critic proof at this point, much like Star Wars.

I don't give a shit what some fuckin' Tomato freaks at some stupid ass site or movie critics say. I'm 99% sure I will love this one as much as the 1st one.

Hell, Bill Nighy alone is a huge draw for me and I'm sure he'll "bring it".

The movie is too damn bloated, too much Will not enough Jack.

Darker and more serious in tone, but not without some great action scenes and a few solid laughs, overall though - it needed another run on the editing room floor. There's wonderful effects, Keira is good, Depp is great, Nighy is great, and Bloom is adequate in terms of acting, his character doesn't give him much to work with though - and sadly he's the least interesting and most prominent in this one. The plot is thin, though not confusing as some have stated.

Not bad, not great, won't be the fan favorite #1 was (IMO) and I really have no interest in seeing a 3rd, especially if what is implied is true While it may sound like I disliked it just because it was darker, that isn't really the case, it just wasn't as entertaining this time around.

So for now (it may go up on a second viewing, who knows) 2.5 out of 5. Worth seeing for some highly imaginative moments and well played out scenes, but the overall movie was still lacking.

I just saw it and I hated it. It is way to long and essentially copies the first film while providing no resolution what so ever.

Oh yeah, that was the other annoyance, theres absolutely no resolution for really any aspect of the movie, except the initial goal.

And there is a small clip after the creds.

I loved it and looked forward to number three. The special effects, particularly Jones' crew, was awesome. I just hope they finish the third one quickly or they'll have to have Keira playing one of the skeletons from the first one..

I ask you - was there any "resolution" for Back To the Future II?

Oh I'm sure most people are aware theres a part 3 coming But an overlong movie that's actually half a movie is damned annoying .

Sure, these collaborative review sites (rotten tomatoes and metacritic) won't be able to effect how much you're going to like the picture, but I am pretty sure they will give an accurate guage on how shit the movie is. And if it's scoring in-between 50-55, it's a piece of shit movie, no matter how much you personally like it.

I generally disagree with that, since a 2.5 is generally rated negative and is still an above average score. And "Piece of Shit" is reserved for movies with a metascore in the 20s.

Just got back from a midnight showing, and loved every minute of it. And judging from the reaction of the crowd at the theater, they felt the same way.

And yes, for me it was very much like ESB in many ways, which is a good thing .

Well, since I don't draw much of my entertainment from music videos , a longer film with a great cliff-hanger setup for the final installment wasn't annoying at all. To the contrary, it was immensely entertaining.

I saw a midnight showing and I liked it alot.

If tonight was any indication then it is going to make a huge amount of money. I saw the midnight showing for Superman last week and there was hardly anyone in there. Last night I saw the midnight showing for Pirates at the same theater and it was packed almost to capacity.
