Anyone think the success of older Batman DVDs will impact Superman DVDs?

I think WB will base their decision on how much effort to put into Superman SEs based on how well Batman SEs perform. Of course, both Superman and Batman are important library titles. The studios can spruce up Superman 3 and 4 just by spreading out a long documentary on Superman over those disks. They can easily create Superman 4 SE - even without making it that specific to the movie.

The Batman set makes me interested in buying the collection even though 3 and 4 aren't very good.

I think the success of next year's Superman movie will more of an indicator than anything. No one likes Batman and Superman equally.

I think they have to plan these things before the film is even released.

Kinda funny that they are going to create special editions of two films that will be "Erased" from the franchise's history.

If they can do a special edition for Batman & Robin, they can do a special edition of anything.

I was actually wondering this today. I bet that good sales of The Batman Anthology would certainly not hurt a Superman set.

Well, it looks like the Anthology is selling well. I had to go to three stores before I found it today.

It's almost guaranteed there will be special editions to coincide with the new movie's DVD release. Hopefully, though they will be out sooner.

I couldn't find Batman Anthology or any of the new versions of the old Batman DVDs anyway. I'm sure it wasn't because of their popularity, Batman Begins was everywhere, but because Warner Brothers didn't make enough.

Total bullshit. I still can't find it in Austin.

maybe the studio (wb?) underestimated the popularity of this for some reason. This happened with the 1st season of Chappeles show a while back, but that wasn't something huge yet, like Batman. No copies in Austin? wild.

Anyway, to answer the question, I'd say that if the Batman DVDs sell well, it might make the studio realize that "older" superhero titles are actually popular. I'm sure they're planning a rerelease, though, to coincide with the new Superman. I'd be willing to bet that by the theatrical release of the new superman, at dead least, a "new & improved boxset" (meaning a rehash of the original releases) will come out, like with the "new" edwards scissorhands dvd.

A lot of the stores I've been to hadn't received the deluxe edition of Batman Begins. I don't think the anthology is really flying off the shelves.

Superman Returns will equal Superman franchise SEs, but also the Batman Anthology sales will help too. But what's superman (78) done as a good SE?

I don't see this coming out until either the new movie theatrical release or it's release on DVD. Honestly, I think that's the wisest profitable decision they could make. Casual Superman fans aren't going to clamour for the originals in SE's until Supes is made fresh in the memory.
