TimeCop/Lionheart Widescreen anytime soon?

So sue me. I dig these flicks, but man I'd love to have them in widescreen and not the butt ugly Full Screen versions that they're currently in on DVD. Any chance Uni will pull their heads out their ass and at least throw some Widescreen transfers our way?

Another good reason to go region-free ...

I finally gave up waiting on TIME COP and ordered this R2/PAL anamorphic widescreen
release:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...758698-0042061

I haven't even seen any rumors about this showing up in Region 1.

I eventually caved and bought Timecop in foolscreen, but havent picked up Lionheart (one of the few VD flicks i dont have) yet.

I don't understand why it gets released in widescreen for R2 but for us in FS only.

Yeah, I need to pick up a Beta-Max player while I'm at it.

I don't get why anyone would waste any more money on LD players or discs.

I was thinking about the timecop DVD last night when watching it on Space, maybe I'll have to get the region 2, I don't want to get it, and then there be a kick ass SE come out here, this would have been the perfect year, 2004! ahhhh!

Well they've done a SE of universal solder, hopefully Time Cop will follow suit. This so needs an SE release, I really can't buy the foolscreen version.

i was happy with the SE of Uni Sol. Prob is that TimeCop is owned by a different company than Artisan who did Uni Sol so you may or may not see Timecop get another release. I have held off in buying it until it gets anamorphic treatment. Lionheart too!

Old topic but I had the fullscreen R1 of this. Then I bought this one on eBay because it said widescreen.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...281670-7035611

Suffice it to say I was a little urked when I looked on the box and it said 4:3 aspect. I stuck it in my DVDROM and powerdvd of course showed it in 4:3 with black bars on the top and bottom.

So I just bought the one you suggested. Will I be happy? Since I want true widescreen?

Check on the net, the one you have may be programmable to region free.

Assuming not everything on LD will be released to DVD several reasons:
The original Star Wars Trilogy
Colossus TThe Forbin Project ws
Thunderball box set w/ The Incredible World of James Bond '65 tv special
Robinson Crusoe on Mars ws
From Beyond the Grave ws
When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth(Hammer) ws
Burn Witch Burn ws
Futureworld ws
Beast of Hollow Mountain ws
Texas Across the River ws
Green Hornet-complete tv series
The Green Slime ws

Only 10% of all the music ever released on vinyl has been released on cd. Probably less than 1% of all the movies ever made were released on vhs. If we're lucky 10% of the movies released on vhs will make it to dvd. That's .01 % of the movies out there available in a single format. I've got about 3000 movies in my collection and less than half have been released on dvd. Rather than fool with different formats I transfer the unrelerased vinyl to cd and unreleased video to dvdr. But you still need the other format players to transfer.
Also on laserdisc is the full un-edited version of John Wayne's Alamo. The MGM/UA dvd is the edited version.

I have unrated versions of Scream and Jason's Lyric that aren't on dvd either. Also, you can often get these discs for about $1 now, instead of the $40+ they cost originally. I have the DTS timecop and it's amazing. Lionhart is called AWOL outside the US I think. I have no idea why universal released fullscreen only of Timecop especially when the dvd format launched. They did the same thing with Fierce Creatures where the laserdisc of both movies is in 2.35:1. If you go region 2 Europe for these, make sure you get a region free player that can convert PAL to NTSC.
