Hi. I am new here. I love this thread. I check it every single day!!!
Anywho.
I just called my local Suncoast store and they said the value of the DVD trade in offer is only up to $19.99, not $26.99 as stated above.

:c(

Welcome Drunken Master 2! It won't be nearly the good deal if they only give you $19.99. I hope my local FYE isn't so stingy.

I just called and spoke to a manager and he told me that the trade in dvds have to have a value of $5 {I assume there is a list he checks} or more each to qualify for the 4 for 1 and that the new value is up to $26.99...

Unless its a brand new movie that just came out you won't get $5 for almost any DVD you own. This deal is all up to the managers discretion. He may only want to take titles in that are produced by WB. Its all up to the manager.

From what my store said, the deal goes on till the 9th and its for a $26.99 value.

As a manager of an FYE I'll just chime in with what I know about this deal. Yes in fact it is 4 for 1 up to $26.99 store credit. I'm not sure about buying something more expensive and then paying the difference. (Lost S2 for example) I honestly think it's all going to be up to the manager's discretion.

There are definitely DVDs that we won't buy because they only come up as .01 in the system. The one cent titles will probably not work for this deal. I have seen no official "list" of titles we aren't supposed to take or even a minimum dollar amount that the titles have to be worth in order to trade them in. Gizmo is correct that the deal is only good for this week. (Through Saturday, the 9th)

It would be great if most stores would take just about anything, but unfortunately I don't think that will be the case. The poster above with the eight titles (major studio releases) should have pretty good luck, but I think it will all come down to each individual store/manager. (If the store already has X amount of copies on hand, they may refuse them.) So YMMV.

If anyone has some luck getting credit toward Lost S2 or any other more expensive item please let us know here on the board. Good luck everyone!

Well they took all 8 DVD's. They did not combine though so 26.99 x 2 aka 54 bux did not work. had to be 2 dvds. they did let me pay the difference as one box set was higher than the 26.99. all good though, just wanted to get rid of those foolscreen dvds.

OK, here is my experience in a Brooklyn FYE (86th St).

1. It had to be exactly one NEW regularly priced at $26.99 or less.
2. They denied my request to buy a higher priced item and pay the difference.
3. Their in-store inventory was INSANELY, and I mean INSANELY overpriced. Well, maybe they all are, I rarely buy DVDs in-store, so I wouldn't know.

Conclusion: after trying for 30 minutes to find something I like below $26.99 mark, I finally found Arresting Development, season 3, priced - right at $26.99! So, considering that I traded 4 $1 DVDs from Overstock, it wasn't too bad If, however, you paid more than a buck for your DVDs, there are much better trading options (DVD Planet comes to mind).

But, like I said, I'm one happy camper, anyway. Thanks, OP.

I asked about the deal at the Del Mar/Carmel Valley, CA Wherehouse and was told I could get a DVD priced higher than $26.99 and pay the difference.

The store I was at had a table in front with a bunch of TV sets at 50% or so off. A couple of decent deals I saw were The Amazing Race Season One for $22.99, a couple of Columbo seasons for $24.99, and Hogan's Heroes for $24.99.

What is to stop you from getting a dvd priced at $26.99 and then returning it later in the day for store credit? I say this because my store said I couldn't pay the difference for a dvd priced more than $26.99 (I want to pick up Lost season 2 with the $10 rebate from FYE).

Don't know. Most could get away with it I'm sure

Im just glad I got House and Entourage for fairly cheap. Still $15 overpriced then BB/CC...still with the crap I traded in it made it worth it

Is this the Appleseed you got? Then, I say it was a good deal

If not.. the deal you got for $46 and only get Appleseed (Tin Only) and RE1&2.. thats a Major loss and a bad selection

Why do you say that? The regular tin Appleseed goes for about $20, and the RE 1/2 set for $25 on-line. He got them for $8 and some crappy DVDs. Sounds good to me.

The prices you mentioned were based from Online.. but its an entire different pricing in B&M. The regular tin can be bought for $12 while the RE1&2 can be bought for $15. You were only talking about the added $8 but the $38 credit he got was not maximized well.

It may sound good to you because you dont compute that details of loss and gains.

First, thanks to Gizmo for the heads up on this deal, I would've never known about it, and it was a great way to get rid of some crap!

My local FYE (San Ramon, CA)accepted just about every DVD I brought in, the only condition was that it had to come up on their system. Some of the DVD's I brought in had a $0.55 trade in value, but that didn't make a difference, it was still good towards my buy 4 get 1.

They let me get DVD's priced over $26.99 and pay the difference, and she let me do this because it said she could on a company letter she was reading from. I traded in 22 DVD's (she gave me store credit for the 2 highest priced ones @ $6.60 each), so I got a total of $148.15 in credit, but I had to buy 5 DVD's, I couldn't put that credit towards 1 or 2 items. Ended up paying $40 for:
Entourage Season 2
Fraggle Rock Season 2 (A day early woo!)
Home Movies Season 3
Reno 911 Season 3
Dazed and Confused Criterion

Good Luck All!

I just got back from Suncoast in Wayne, New Jersey.
I got the "Trade 4 for 1" deal.
So I grabbed AD3 and Tick Season 1, each costing $22.99 and $26.99 respectively.
I thought I was golden.
I brought 12 discs and thought that I would pay the difference on Simpsons 8 and get a total of 3 box sets for about $20.
Good deal, right?
Wrong.
The deal is for the "actual" price of the DVD.
Bringing AD3 up to 29.99.
Tick Season 1 up to 34.99.
Simpsons 8 OVER $50!

So needless to say, I didn't want to pay the difference on all of those so I asked the guy if I could trade in the 12 and get 2 box sets and use the third group of 4 dvds to pay the difference.
He looked at me confused, but long story short (too late)...I walked out of Suncoast with AD3 and Tick Season 1 and left behind 12 terrible DVDs without dropping a dime.
Decent score.

So, they expect you to pay MSRP for the DVD that you get?

I encountered the same thing today. The guy told me it was "regular price" and any sale prices on the DVDs wouldn't be honored. I looked around and didn't see a lot I wanted to pay retail for, even after the $27 trade in but I didn't have a lot of time. I'll go again next week and hopefully find something I want.

BTW, Xage, where did you find RE 1&2 for $15? I'll pick it up for that.

Ive traded in 20 dvds so far, standard $5 walmart bin fare too(Mad City, chill factor, etc etc).
Unless you something on sale, its really not worth it.
The stuff i got below was either 26.99 or 24.99 on sale:

Nip-Tuck S2
The O.C S2(to sell, blech)
Veronica Mars S1
Rocky and Bullwinkle S2
Hong Kong Phooey Complete Series

Definitely not worth it at the FYE and Suncoast locations in the Tri-County Mall here in Cincinnati. They're sticklers about the MSRP, and won't allow you to use the $26.99 as a credit towards a more expensive disc/set. Suncoast wouldn't take one of my anime titles, while FYE had no problem with it. I didn't take advantage of the sale at either store since the prices were so ridiculous and the selections were so poor.

The FYE in the Kenwood Towne Centre is not participating in the sale.

Is this something that's only taking place at some Suncoasts? Mine didn't know what I was talking about and had no advertisment of any kind for it.
