Jim Carrey in 'The Mask' DVD Re-release

New Line Home Entertainment has also announced a new Platinum Series edition of The Mask which stars Jim Carrey. The disc will be available to own from the 17th May, and should retail at around $19.97. The film will boast a new anamorphic widescreen transfer along with both Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS 6.1 ES tracks. Extras will include a commentary with director Chuck Russell, a second commentary with filmmakers and New Line Cinema's Bob Shaye, a Introducing Cameron Diaz featurette, a What Makes Fido Run featurette, a Cartoon Logic featurette and a Return to Edge City featurette. Completing the set will be the deleted scenes featured on the original DVD release. English and Spanish subtitles will also be provided. I'm afraid New Line hasn't released the artwork yet, but we'll bring you that very shortly.

This is not surprising considering that the film was one of the titles announced for HD-DVD release. It's about time!

This is very tempting ... and not a double-dip that bothers me, especially since the original DVD was the very first mail-in freebie I ever got.

I know it's because of the sequel, but isn't there already a pretty nice platinum edition release out there? Why not revisit Dumb and Dumber?

I believe the current Platinum Edition is non-anamorphic. So a new DVD is not a bad idea.

The original dvd looks great already.
They should have put this upcoming dvd with one of those free movie tickets to see SON OF THE MASK, since they didn't I'm not rebuying!

Yes, you're correct. I used to own the current edition, and I just got rid of it... Good timing on my part, apparently.

I will have to rewatch the old version of "The Mask" I have had for the past 5 years, if it is bad I may have to double dip.
