The "orginal dvd" looks great a Non-HDTV, but once it gets on a HDTV it looks alot worse.

DVDAnswers now has the cover up:

Compare it with the current edition:

They look nearly identical, and both have the "New Line Platinum Series" banner. Making this somewhat of a weird situation. Couldn't they just name it something else? "Special Edition"?

I like the black background instead of the blue sky.

The black bg matches the lighting on the character better the the cloud bg.

I'm not a fan of the movie so I may be incorrect, but doesn't the mask only work at night? If so, the new cover makes no sense.

Whoops, I posted the original artwork using Amazon's image just earlier today, and they've already changed it to the new one. And the DVD is now shipping within 2-3 weeks, instead of 24 hours. Much confusion...

You're thinking of "The Wolf Man" or maybe "Gremlins."

The majority of it takes place at night so you do tend to feel like this.

I really enjoyed The Mask in the cinema but never bought it on DVD, I may get this though.

Cameron Diaz ca. The Mask was cinematic perfection

Just out of curiousity, why wouldn't the mask work when Carrey's character met with Ben Stein's character? That is the scene I recalled regarding the night-time rule.

I think this dvd has been on New Line's shelves for some time. How else can you explain the theatrical trailers for Return Of The King, Elf and Raise Your Voice on this 'new' dvd?!

I'll double dip for certain. I have the old original R4 fullframe release.
