Not surprised at all, last year was one of the worst ever. AI knew that they needed to improve or they were going to loose alot of viewership.

I figured that the ratings would drop off after the swimming ended.

and that is why NBC ponied up nearly a billion for the rights to the Summer Olympics.

Olympics average primetime rating = 16.2. Except for L.A. '84 and Atlanta '96, that's the highest for a summer olympics since 1976.
