This item isn't a part of the new return policy

I'll never forget this woman returning a huge RPTV and walking out with two plasmas, "figured that I get one for the bedroom too".

It seems that Costco has made their exchange/return policy more strict. Today I went to return a Mash complete series boxset that was given to me as a gift. I already have the set ( I purchased it there last year). The clerk at the return counter tells me that I need a reciept or that the person who purchased it exchange it himself. I told her that I the person who gave it to me as a gift moved to Germany and that I didn't know the number to his account even though I know his name and his phone number. The clerk said that it wasn't enough and that she wasn't going to give me store credit since the reurn policy had changed. She brought the store manager who said the same thing.

So the era of accepting merchandise without reciepts seems to have come to an end.

Why didn't they look up the purchase under your account (if you bought another copy from them yourself)?

What's the difference if he returns it under the other guy's Costco account or his own? Unless there's some kind of time limit for exchanges... he probably paid more for it last year anyway.

You had a bad clerk, returns without receipts is still perfectly fine at Costco

I took back a movie I got for Christmas (w/o receipt) and a food processor I got as a wedding gift (w/o receipt) the past two weeks. They didn't seem to care I didn't have a receipt.

Yeah, I heard on the radio that their official return policy has been tightened up because too many people were abusing the system.

If you purchase on Costco.com as a non-member and pay the non-member surcharge, is there still a lifetime warranty (this is for a gps)?

I purchased a Phillips HTS3450 Home Theater at Costco back in November 2006. The subwoofer died on me today after a couple of months of doing weird sounds on what it seems to be a norm for this system after I googled around and found other customers with similar situations. Now i have a completely unplayable system. Can I exchange or return my purchase?

Costco changed their return policy in February 2007. Since you bought this before the change, your purchase applies to the old policy(grandfather clause). You can return it for a full refund(there is no way that they will have that exact item to replace).

What's their exchange policy if you don't have the receipt? I have the Philips DVP5992 player I bought 9/11/08 and it just recently started doing something funny. I just want another one and they still have them in stock.

They should be able to look it up using the account number from your card.

I believe that Costco now has a 90 return policy for computers. Does anybody know what the return policy is for external hard drives?

Merchandise: We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell with a full refund. Exceptions: Televisions, projectors, computers, cameras, camcorders, iPOD / MP3 players and cellular phones must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a refund.

I have no idea if Costco considers an external hard drive a computer or a peripheral. I know that there's no time limit for printers.

A lifetime warrenty from Costco would make me willing to pay the extra few bucks that buying an external hard drive from them would cost me.

There is no time limit either. A former colleague of mine purchased a 160gb Passport and for some reason, it died after a year. He went to his local Costco and exchanged it with no problem. Since the 250GB was now at the same price as the one he bought the year before, he was able to pick the better one at no extra charge.
