Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

I'm at the point where I'd rather tolerate commercials than mess around with physical media. I had hundreds of DVDs and about 1,000 Blu-rays. Now I'm down to about 100 titles in total.

Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

It's funny to look back on this thread. I did end up collecting a sizable collection of BDs... before I ended up selling most of them. Most of what I own on BD is nostalgia stuff. Star Trek: The...

Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

It is a business entity. I just did some quick research:

This means you MAY be able to continue viewing on a platform like VUDU if UV goes out of business. If VUDU goes out of business, you...

Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

I can't believe this thread is 10 years old. It's fun to bump it every once in a while.

It's funny how streaming wasn't really a thing back then.

Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

After a couple of years of inactivity, I decided to bump this thread to see if attitudes have changed regarding the topic. The technology certainly has.

Re: The biggest ripoff ever? Looney Tunes: Best of Bugs Bunny

Can you imagine a mom buying this for the kids and it's over before she's finished making them sandwiches? No one expects only 20 minutes of content. The runtime is printed in small black type on a...

Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

Here's a more depressing thought: You are going to die and all of the stuff you collect, including your Steelbook sets, lenticular slipcases, and your limited edition of "Dude, Where's my Car?" will...

Re: DVDs, Materialism, & the Concept of Ownership

Of course, if there's something obscure there's a chance it will go out of print. Buy it if you love it and want to rewatch it. However there's no need to ever keep a DVD of Jerry Maguire...

I finally bought a humble 32" 720p HDTV and a 2.1 soundbar. I also have an upscaling DVD player. With my current setup, would I experience any noticeable improvement by adding a Blu-Ray player to the...
