Why doesn't Criterion release animation?

Why doesn't Criterion release any animation? I understand that they used to, during the LD days. (I believe Akira was a CC release.) So why don't they now?

I saw them at Sankofa Theatre (it was a small club in Evansville, on the west side, just a few blocks from my parent's house.) back in 1998, (my senior year of HS) right after Full Trucker Effect...
