Generally it is recommended to set the sharpness to minimum when watching *anything*. Get Video Essentials or something similar and cabibrate your TV. You'll be amazed at the difference.

Did you enable DTS on the DVD player. Every player I've looked at needs to have the DTS output explicitly enabled in the setup menus.(Not the disc menu but the actual player menu itself).
