Is this a big election? For Trudeau? Is he liked up there? I think he's kinda sexy, I'd vote for him.

Yes, it's our federal election. But we (well, most of us) don't vote for Trudeau, directly. We vote for our local representatives. If enough Liberal members are elected, Trudeau will remain Prime Minister.

Oh don't worry, I'll be voting. I think that the Ontario results will especially effect the election this year, but I always vote regardless.

Trudeau took a big hit in popularity earlier this year (I won't go into the gory details that will bore most Americans, our political scandals aren't quite as interesting ) that he's just starting to recover from, so I think this will be a particularly big election for him, especially if he wants to retain a majority government. The race is pretty tight between the Liberals and Conservatives right now.

Who’s running? A moose? Or is it a barrel of maple syrup this time?

Prime Minister Tim Horton has a nice ring to it.

Way to hit that low hanging fruit.

Oh, and Tim Horton died 45 years ago, so I'm afraid he is not eligible to be PM.

There's a joke here, but so offensive I'd get banned immediately. I'm sure y'all can come up with it on your own though...

Just out of curiosity, what good do you Canadians think voting will do? Asking for an Statesian friend ...

I think Tim Horton should become an honorary name bestowed on whoever is elected Canadian Prime Minister. Kind of like how the Pope takes on a different name. But it would always be Prime Minister Tim Horton. Decades from now it would be like The Honorable Tim Horton IX.

All I know is that I voted for what turned out to be the winning party in the last three elections. You're welcome, Canada!

Trudeau may be in hot water over this photo. He's pictured in "brownface" at a Arabian nights themed party back in 2001.

I think the Liberals just lost my vote. I was going to reluctantly vote for them, but I've always had questions about Trudeau's judgment. Not happy with the broken promises (I was naive enough to believe he would be a new type of leader), and with the Grassy Narrows protester thing, the Wilson-Raybould fiasco, and this, I think it's time to move on. Besides, my vote makes no difference in my riding, it's a safe Liberal seat.

Wow. 2001! At least when our politicians get caught in old pictures doing black face it’s from the ‘70s.

Serious question, is brown face the same as black face? Is there a history of people putting on brown face to make fun of Arabian people?

They did it a lot in old British movies.

Oh and

But Sam Jaffee was supposed to be Indian.

Ever seen Peter Sellers in The Party? That’s a whole movie where he puts on an Indian persona and acts like a dope.

So I'm a Canadian "brown" person. I don't think "brown" face has the same historical context. Still problematic. The picture makes my skin crawl.

I don't think I've heard the phrase Arabian people since the 70s

Is that not a good term? the only reason I used it was because he was dressed up as Aladdin, and the Arabian Nights song started going through my head.
