Re: The Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3
Recent polling data may explain the 2020 election results ... and reality TV played a bigger role than we thought. A recent poll conducted by the Citizen’s Direction Foundation and the University of Illinois State surveyed 1,508 Americans by phone. The survey was targeted at voters who stated they voted for Donald Trump. The poll data found that 73% of people who stated they voted for Donald Trump had a profound misunderstanding of the voting system: they thought they were voting him off. Questions asked during the survey lead to the conclusion that voters have become severely confused by decades of “reality“ tv entertainment and do not understand how the American election process works.

Abob, you aren't quoting the source so please tell me that's from the Onion. Confused about what a vote for someone means? My gosh.
Also, i thought the vast majority of reality tv worked like the election and your vote is for someone to stay? What shows are they watching?

We (the people on this board) understand that Randy Quaid is in an unfortunate mental state. But what does this do to people who don't have that kind of literacy?

On a lesser scale, I’ve only channel surfed by the new version but I think The Weakest Link also votes a contestant off - the “weakest link”.
I’m sure there are others but I haven’t watched reality tv in a long time so I don’t know.

It’s been years since I’ve watched it but Survivor, the granddaddy of them all, was designed specifically to vote someone off the island.

Also, wouldn't these idiots mark more than one person and invalidate their own ballots if they were voting for who they didn't want in office? Or do they think an election is a multi round thing where every week another candidate gets voted off? I can't even imagine. Just tell me it's a parody.

"Citizen's Direction Foundation" sounds like a Monty Python skit.

Yeah, it’s a full blown cult.
That’s really astounding. Nearly three out of every four trump voters — presumably, most identify as republicans — would ditch the GOP to follow him.
Loyalty to Trump runs deep among the respondents. Asked with whom they would identify if the president left the GOP, 72% responded Trump's party, while 28% answered the Republican Party.

If there were a Venn Diagram of The Amazing Race, Survivor, Apprentice, Kardashians and Housewives viewers, I suspect The Apprentice watchers would overlap more with The Amazing Race and Survivor than the other shows.

Yeah I know there are degrees of smarminess. I'm referring to the willingness of some people to believe everything they see on TV because it's on TV.

That's saying that, if Trump ran as an Independent in 2024, it would pretty-much end the GOP. I wonder the implications downballot for the Trump loyalists in the House and Senate.

IF he were to do that and split the Republican vote giving the Dems another 4 years it might redeem him slightly. Slightly....
