Early reporting is that the gunman is now down but not sure if there are others. Suspect was on 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay shooting down at crowd of people attending an outdoor country event.

Edit: Country concert. Jason Aldean was performing at Route91Harvest.

Chilling live video... lots of rapid fire gunshots can be heard.

Re: Active shooter - Las Vegas

Many witnesses saying they saw lots dead. So far 2 dead 24 injured being reported. (Unfortunately I suspect that number will be much much higher)

Update: Unofficial scanner reports from FD - 91 injured (transported to hospital) 22 dead.

Early reports, from scanner, say shooter is from Mesquite, AZ according to ID found. (Scanner traffic can be unreliable)

My heart breaks when I hear these stories. The eyewitness' reports are chilling. One guy said he saw someone on the ground with his head split open. My prayers are for the victims and I hope for swift justice on the shooter(s).

Re: Active shooter - Las Vegas

I went to see Penn and Teller with a group friends at the Rio and as we left the show we saw an active shooter warning on the TVs. We took an Uber back to the Bellagio and everything is shut and locked down.

Wow. I don't know much about the gun laws in Nevada, but aren't there metal detectors at the hotel as you enter the building? How did someone get (what sounds like) a semi-automatic gun into the building?

Still very early as this story develops so maybe the killer wasn't on the 32nd floor or maybe there was more than one shooter.

Scary. Hope there aren't as many dead as you are hearing on your scanner.

Re: Active shooter - Las Vegas

I don't think you go through a metal scanner to go to your hotel room, unless things have changed recently (and they assuredly will now). It sounds like the weapon would be difficult to obtain, but I also know that Las Vegas has gun ranges where you can shoot semi automatic weapons.

It also sounds like there's more than one shooter, which if true is even scarier. Because of the OJ Simpson stuff there are a ton of local reporters there as well.

Friend there at Route 91 said she and her family ran three miles south and hid in some lady’s apartment for cover.

Sounded like a full assault rifle to me. Certainly clips and the time in between was just to load another clip. Sounded like at least 100 rounds fired to me.. and that's a low estimate.

Police reporting only the one shooter - and he's down.

Supposed to be a new conference soon.. but they keep pushing it back. That's normal in these crazy situations.

Re: Active shooter - Las Vegas

2 dead, 26 injured, at least 12 in critical condition, if those numbers hold up that seems really light considering how packed the venue was and how many bullets were seemingly shot.

Was getting ready for bed and saw a friend post this news on Facebook.

Now watching this late on CNN and the social media is just terrifying, especially the rapid fire sound of the machine gun at the concert. Just stunning.

Holy shit man, that IS scary! A caller on CNN said there were more shots at the Bellagio, but I think that was just misinformation. Did you hear anything?

EDIT: Police confirm that is misinformation.

Police state over 20 dead, well over 100 injured... Fuck.

There's a name being tossed around on twitter...

If he's the shooter it looks like we can rule out Islamic terrorism.

Old white guy, possibly a registered sex offender. I read one report that said he was attending the concert and was kicked out.

They're also looking for a little Asian woman connected to the guy.

I want to know how the fuck he got that gun/all that ammunition into the hotel? Sounded like military grade weaponry!

Re: Active shooter - Las Vegas

I go to Vegas 3-4 times a year. Next trip less than 2 weeks, then running the half marathon in November.

There are no metal detectors at the hotels. In fact one of the nice things about the hotels is anyone can just walk in to get a drink or use a restroom.

Most of the elevators that go to rooms have some security. A guard that asks to see your room key. Or the elevators only work with a key. But I have seen some hotels not even have that.

But as these are mostly casino hotels, there are camera everywhere. Except of course in rooms.

It looks like the amateur internet detectives have slandered an innocent person.

This legitimate source names a suspect, and it's not the guy that the amateur internet detectives named.

Las Vegas gunman suspect is Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada: NBC News

Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man from Mesquite, NV, has been identified as the suspected gunman in the Las Vegas shooting

Over 20 people died and more than 100 were injured in the attack near Mandalay Bay hotel

Police are still looking for Marilou Danley who they believe was with the suspect before the shooting

October 2, 2017

The suspected gunmen in the Las Vegas shooting has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock from Mesquite, Nevada, according to NBC News.

Over 20 people died and more than 100 were injured after a gunman opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival which was taking place across the road from Mandalay Bay on the famous Las Vegas Strip.

Police said a suspect was apprehended on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel where he died.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said that a person who was seen sitting with the suspected shooter in a car before the incident is still at large. Lombardo said that the person of interest is Marilou Danley, who he described as an Asian female who is 4 foot and 11 inches tall.

NBC News said that police described Danley as his companion and she was living with him. The police are also searching Paddock's house.

Paddock was not known to the federal authorities, but was known to local law enforcement, according to NBC News.

He has no known connection to terrorism and police have not called the shooting a terrorist attack, according to the news agency.

Not everyone who converts to Islam changes their name.

The person you are thinking of could be Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, atheist, agnostic, or any other religious view.

The wikipedia article is set so only long term editors, who have built up and established trust, can edit the article. So it should be the best, most up to date, most accurate source for info:
