It is a complete and utter waste of time to respond to him at all. I thought he was in his early to mid 20s from his posting style, but he's 50 something? It's obvious he's just wasting everyone's time. I refuse to acknowledge or respond to any more of the diarrhea he will continue to shit all over this place.

Re: 2018 Congressional, Governor, etc election thread

Moving on :

I thought some of you might like an update on my Democratic Organizer house-guest :

At first I thought it was great having a houseguest I never saw, even if it was to be for almost five months. Thought she must be incredibly busy because I never saw her -- she was still out working when we went to bed and was gone before we got up the next morning most days. The only time we saw her was when she had a bunch of friends over to our pool for a party on her birthday (which she asked us about having before inviting everyone). Soon it became clear that she was never sleeping there. She stored her clothes in a pile on the bed in her guest room and was I guess off with a boyfriend or something. I wasn't so crazy about her using our place as a free 24 hour storage locker but I was willing to roll with it reluctantly. Then we realized that she was never washing her clothes and the house started to smell from her BO. My wife tried, as politely as possible, to get her to come back and wash her clothes. She did the next day, but I think she was offended. A week later she told us she was moving to another house "closer to her work". She has moved out now.

I am happy it's over with. It was cool feeling like we were doing something to help get a good Democrat candidate elected over a true weenie of a Republican. I so hope that comes to pass. But having a messy, ungrateful houseguest use your house as a glorified storage unit for months is just too big a sacrifice for me.
My wife said "They'll probably call us asking to put someone else up now". I told her that I think we've done our civil duty for this election cycle. Hope I still get an invite for election night party though.

^ Thank you for your service. It's better to have a smelly election organizer in your house than a despicable low-class guy occupying the White House.

Morgan Murtaugh is being compared to Alexandria Ortega-Cortez due to age, gender, and ethnicity, but AOC has a platform that is not even the same as the majority of her party. Even if you don't agree with it (I certainly have my doubts), she has a plan. It's something different, and unlike our current reality-show-host-in-chief, it's more than merely hitting "undo" on the previous officeholder. AOC has hit a button with the younger population: spiraling health care and education costs. OK, GOP, socialism is not the solution to those issues. Then what is? And don't say "lower taxes".

She says she wants the taxpayers to pay for those things, but she didn't say anything about what she would do to actually lower their costs.

Geez, that is eerily similar to an ordeal I went through about a decade ago. The key differences: she was a friend of a friend trying to break into journalism and having an opportunity on my side of the state, and that whole thing dragged out for nearly a year.

This is the kind of bullshit that makes it very hard to see a difference between "criticizing the post" and "criticizing the poster."

No. You don’t get to parse words when you defend Nazis. I’m sorry that you think committing a misdemenor might justify being run over by a Nazi.

Re: 2018 Congressional, Governor, etc election thread

What's more ironic than a Republican running for State Senate committing Welfare fraud?

So Republican Bekah Halat is running for the Alaska State Senate.

Bekah is a damn mess.

Halat and her husband, Jarek Halat, were charged last week with one count of felony theft for allegedly collecting more than $10,000 in food stamps that they shouldnít have qualified for. They also face one misdemeanor charge for misleading a public servant.

Yeah, they were both working, living in a $280,000 house and paying a $2,000 a month mortgage, but they really needed that extra $662. a month for food. So, they lied about their income.

I expect Republicans to steal. Hell, thatís almost something they list with pride on their campaign materials for the primary.

But the Republican behavior is what I find amusing. Halat blamed her opponent for her theft. She claimed the criminal charges (which say she admitted to being dishonest and asked to repay the food stamps) were ďfalse allegations from those trying to steal the election.Ē

ďPeople have learned a lot about me, but thereís a lot more they have to learn if they think Iím going to just curl up in a ball and let someone else represent me and my district through attacking my family.Ē

Shuddup. Just shuddup.

Rick Scott is running an ad against Sen Nelson saying that Nelson doesn't support Medicare because he voted to borrow from the Medicare fund in some vote. How much did Rick Scott support Medicare when he (as CEO of HCA Hospitals) presided over the largest Medicare fraud scam in the history of the country? Does he really want to open up that can of worms?

Is Vichy Grundle better?

Even if she was protesting in the street and deliberately blocking traffic, it does not justify him driving into her and killing her.

And I never said it did.

What I did say is that protestors would be safer if they did their protesting on the sidewalk.

Just because the narrator of an animal documentary says, "The lion ate the zebra," it does not mean that the narrator believes that the zebra deserved to be eaten.

Re: 2018 Congressional, Governor, etc election thread

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez banned the media from her latest town hall event.

Her campaign spokesperson said the ban should be temporary.

Snce this was a private event, I recognize that she had every right in the world to ban the media.

That being said, I don't think it helps her reputation.

Later, in the second article that I'm posting here, reporters criticized her for it.

Again, I respect her right to ban reporters. But at the same time, I think it only hurts her reputation.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Banned the Media From Her Latest Town Hall Event

August 17, 2018

Democratic New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to ban the media from her latest town hall event with constituents.

Ocasio-Cortez has been conducting a “listening tour” throughout the 14th district to talk with local residents about immigration, healthcare, and various other issues. However, according to the Queens Chronicle, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign refused to allow any TV or newspaper reporters into her last event in Corona, Queens.

Campaign spokesman Corbin Trent said the ban was the campaign’s response to an incident last week where Ocasio-Cortez met with healthcare activist Ady Barkan, and the two of them were “mobbed” by journalists despite it being a non-Q&A event. Trent told the Chronicle that the ban should be temporary and the campaign is still interested in maintaining an open relationship with local media.

“We wanted to help create a space where community members felt comfortable and open to express themselves without the distraction of cameras and press. These were the first set of events where the press has been excluded,” said Trent. “This is an outlier and will not be the norm. We’re still adjusting our logistics to fit Alexandria’s national profile.”

Critics have taken Ocasio-Cortez to task since she won the Democratic primary, after making embarrassing comments in her recent interviews.

UPDATE 5:28 p.m. ET — Ocasio-Cortez has responded to the outcry, but her statement has left critics scratching their heads. Click here for the latest.

As a Dem, which wacky Republican candidates can you not stop talking about? There are multiple avowed white supremacists running on GOP tickets. They donít get a fraction of the attention Ocasio-Cortez does. Please donít reflexively engage in bothsideserism.

Those racist Republicans are evil. That's not the same thing as "wacky."

Does John Kasich get the same kind of attention from MSNBC or Huffington Post as Ted Cruz? No. That's my only point.
