Tim Russert, 1950 - 2008

The New York Post's website is reporting that NBC's Tim Russert has died.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/06132008...att_115384.htm

June 13, 2008 --
Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.
Russert, who rose from the inside world of politics where he was former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo's press secretary and one-time chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was able to successfully cross over to political journalism and rise to become one of its leading lights.
In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

Tom brokaw on MSNBC right now and just broke in with the news. He's pretty broken up. Only 58. Very sad.

Damn. He was one of my favorite news personalities. He was a big sports fan too. I actually chatted with him for a few minutes in the bar connected to Verizon Center during the infamous UConn/GMU East Regional Final in 2006. He had just finished that morning's Meet The Press and stopped in for a few beers and to watch the game. The man could drink fast.

Awful news. Seeing Tom Brokaw struggle to keep from breaking up made it worse. I just read Big Russ and Me a couple weeks ago and thought it was amazing.

What a loss. I always found him highly intelligent, highly articulate and an highly passionate man about politics. I will miss his insight. RIP.

Don't worry, I'm sure NBC can find someone who isn't a crazy shouting head to replace him ... like ... uh ... hmm, we're in trouble.

Ditto. Out of all the Sunday hosts, he was the best spoken and seemed to acutally know his stuff. And he clearly enjoyed his work.

RIP.
