why should the media apologize?

Both parties are saying it's close and every reputable poll is within a few points of a tie. The swing states are supposedly even closer.

This is somehow the media's fault?

Once again, media = plural of medium, so what you meant to ask was

"Do the media owe the American people an apology if this election isn't close?"

Sheesh.

And no, they don't.

Aside from whatever internal polling the parties do the media is the one that runs most of the polls. I think C-man is implying that they may have been crafting the polls to create controvesy and therefore boost ratings. Personally I don't believe it and I think the election will be close.

Because they've over-hyped the closeness of this election.

There's a reason for the parties to 'say' that it is close (even if they know it's not).

Of course they do but they never will.
They are elistist liberals. They are never wrong.

This race is/was never that close. They are trying their hardest to make us believe it is.

Bush will win big electorally !

That's my follow-up question.

What is considered close - 10 points? 7 points? 5 points? What???

Within 5 points would be close, IMO. Bush is a sitting President, after all. When it becomes clear that it won't be that close, everyone will be shocked.

No, they don't.

But this does make me think of a question about the election, an unspoken question regarding the closeness of the outcome.

Do some people feel that a vote for Mr. Kerry is an admission of defeat?

Honestly asking if you all feel that people feel this way, not stating that they do.

Close is within 80 EVs of one another.

bfrank, I don't see how another election could be closer than 2000 so by definition, this will not be as close. I still think it will be closer than some think.

No. Their job is to cry "wolf," to argue the "sky is falling" and to defeat the President. They only owe the Dems an apology if they fail to meet objective.

No editorial comment - simply the attitude of the media.

And I believe it's not going to be as close as some think.

I will surprised if it's within 5 points.

My point exactly. You have a preconceived notion about the media and you built it into your poll. You could have just had yes and no options and then let your feelings be known in the first post but you just had to invest it with your own bias so that voting no would carry a message that you approve of. Very transparent.

Oh, right. The old liberal media fantasy. Keep spinnin' those yarns and maybe some day they'll actually come true.

CBS needs to apologize for attempting to perpetrate a fraud on the country and attempting to manipulate a national election.

Blatently, and poorly, forged memos
Crying wolf about missing explosives that were missing before US troops arrived, even after CBS reported on this back in April 2003.

That's two times, people. When will you learn??
