Obama watches Avatar with his children (spoilers)

Yes, he brought his 8 year old daughter to see a PG-13 film. But hold on, frothing at the mouth conservatives... it doesn't end there.

What I am wanting to discuss is how the viewing of this film might impact our nation's leader and thus, our nation's course in history.

It is rumored that, or rather, I am trying to start a rumor that, Obama called the film a "vindication of his policies, the paramount example of everything that is wrong with our nation and world today."

If you have not seen the film, you might want to stop right here. But if you have seen the film, my questions are as follows:

Spoiler:

1) Do you believe that this viewing will embolden the President when it comes to policies involving environmental preservation?

2) Do you believe that the president accurately distinguishes between the noble Na'vi, Native Americans, and others who could potentially be viewed as the victims of imperialism, such as in the Muslim world?

3) Do you think this viewing makes the president less likely to develop cool weapons that could potentially be used in an imperialist manner?

4) Do you think that the president felt moments of half-white-guilt during this viewing regarding our nation's behavior in a resource-rich middle east in which a character is essentially half human and half Na'vi?

5) Do you think that this served as a teachable moment for our president when it comes to how he views people of color that are blue and green?

Can someone change the thread title from Avatar to "2 girls 1 cup"?

renders your entire thread invalid and a waste of time.

He did see the movie, though.

If he felt that way, he never would've escalated Afghanistan.

I do have an 8-year old niece, and I think she's far too young for some of the violence in Avatar.

Agreed. But I'm not sure we can blame the movie studio for waiting until the Christmas rush to release the film, however unfortunate the consequences.

Agreed. From my understanding, the family remained in the theater for the entire film and did not leave early upon witnessing some of the violence. I hope there was a considerable amount of commentary by the parents following the film to help the children understand it. Even then, it seems rather violent for that age. We are an increasingly desensitized nation.

Obama will take his kids to a film where people from another world die left and right all in the name of a select few looking to profit from pillaging a natural resource, but I'm pretty sure he won't take his kids to work....where people from our planet are dying left and right all in the name of a select few looking to profit from pillaging a natural resource.

Sometimes the truth is scarier than fiction.

I guess the old white guys in the gov't got tired of picking on the indians, so now they are giving Obama a shot!

I took my 8 year old son. There was serious violence, but there is scarier stuff on Animal Planet.

I kept looking for more blue boobies.

You people are pussies. I'm with Obama for once. I saw Aliens when I was nine and it didn't cause me any irreversible harm.

So could your parents just not afford to fix the reversible harm?

With Obama's new health plan I will finally be able to have the irreversable fixed too.

Unfortunately, they can't add back the foreskin.

I wasn't allowed to watch R-rated movies till I was 15 or 16. But I've been watching PG-13 since I was 8-or-so. I really don't see a problem with it.

I just watched the Cove yesterday and this thread made me wonder if Pres. Obama has seen it. Very eye opening experience.

Just from having seen the trailer many months ago, I am pretty sure I don't want to see it. I don't think I could watch it.

My wife quit halfway through. It's pretty rough.
