Wait, what? So at least two people here save their old nails and skin?? I only keep the nails and skin that are still attached to my body.

Guys, I don’t really save my nails and skin. I eat them like a normal person.

I'll probably regret posting this, but since this forum could disappear any day, what the hell

Just wondering, why do you save them and does your family know about it?

When my dad died my mother thought everything was worth a fortune. Everything had sentimental value. We held an estate sale and sold things for pennies on the dollar. Then dumpstered and donated.

We are much better. We have a crapload of stuff but no longer keep stuff just in case. In fact since my parents died and I saw what we went through, I am very careful about keeping things thrown out. Of course the kids will still wonder why I have 15 year old Pontiac magazines but I still read them.

Re: What's the oddest thing that's getting thrown away when you die?

The so-called "antiques" market has tanked. Nobody under 40 seems to collect "stuff" anymore. It is anathema to the Millennials. Old things that were worth something 20-30 years ago now get pennies on the dollar compared to the "collector" values of the recent past. Most choose to just throw away so-called valuable things just because they don't want the hassles of selling items piecemeal.

An exception to this rule seems to be old computer equipment and systems. Stuff that the Gen X'ers had as kids now has "value" because those Gen X'ers are nostalgic and have too much expendable cash to blow, so it drives the value of those "cheap" Atari 2600s, C64s. and Colecovisions up to abandon. The motherfucking ebay scalpers fuel this fire as well, intentionally creating scarcity for personal profit gain, ie, they sit on some classic system for years or decades until some magic threshold is reached...

NOTHING will be thrown out or sold. i am an antiquarian and my estate will all find its rightful place within my family and a select list of antique savvy relatives

Not talking about the stuff. The trophies. It's stuff sure but it's a symbol of his hard work and accomplishment and it's just worth nothing to anyone else but probably meant a great deal to him.

Yeah, that's a pity. But unless you've been on television, like Hank Aaron or Usain Bolt, the general public isn't going to be interested in your sports achievements.

Hmm, whenever a stand-up comic complaining about "millennials" they always say, "they grew up with everyone gets a trophy!" If that's true, just think about the estate sales in the next fifty to sixty years, and the millions of unwanted trophy that will be displayed unsold and unloved. Thank God none of us will be around to witness this heartbreaking sight.

I threw out all my trophies around age 30.
I only kept some of the square marble bases, and use them as paperweights.

Per the trophy discussion I got these taking bowling class a few times in college. The instructor used old pins that were set aside for disposal which is why they look so beat up.

^ One credit hour class. I considered taking billiards class but the instructor always wore sunglasses in the student union pool hall and I was kinda intimidated.

Another exception is vinyl records. I've recently been cataloging my collection on Discogs, and every so often I'll enter some hardcore punk record I got in the 80s and haven't listened to in 20+ years, and it rates $50 or more on Discogs. That small section of my records (maybe a couple dozen in total) could easily fetch a grand or more by themselves (while all the new wave and mainstream 80s records I own are worth about 2 bucks each)

I 'studied' snooker for many hours while I was going to university. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any credit for it.
