Fake Meat: Anyone had a "Beyond" or "Impossible" burger?

These are the two main brands. Supposedly the next evolution of veggie burgers that "bleed" and "sear" like real meat does.
These are just two random videos I found about them.

Anyone had one? Would you try it?
I'm tempted...

Re: Fake Meat: Anyone had a "Beyond" or "Impossible" burger?

I get stuff like this from Whole Foods all the time. Beyond any political or moral obligations, it's nice to change it up sometimes. For health, and tasty satisfaction, I believe in that kind of food diversity. If you eat burgers all the time, it doesn't hurt to have some vegan burgers here and there.

If it tastes bad, it's because you're cooking it wrong!

Sure, I'd try that. I'm trying to cut down on red meat anyway, so I can have something like this that "tricks" me, cool.

But, but it still doesn't taste like real beef! Fake is fake, regardless of how you dress it up. The whole idea reeks of America and runaway capitalism. Health concerns take a far second-place.

I donít care if it tastes like beef. This stuff is good if you season and cook it right. If you bite into it and think ďeweeeĒ, itís because you didnít cook it right.

There's a couple of spots out here that serve that Impossible Burger - Fatburger and Veggie Grill have it. The issue is that it's 10$+ for one. I'd rather pay that much or up to $15 for a real gastropub burger.

Too bad RandyC isn't around. He posts all kinds of vegan food and recipes on Facebook. It does look tasty.

I still haven't tried Beyond Meat or Impossible Burgers but want too. I've been Vegan and Vegetarian so I'm open to most of these substitute meat products even though now I'm eating meat again.

Most vegan food is great when you have the time and money for it.

My biggest problem is that, when Iím not totally satisfied, I gravitate towards vegan sandwiches and donuts. In comes the carbs and sugar and thatís no good for me.

I'm willing to try it. Yes, I guess proper cooking, seasoning, texture, and appearance can 'fool' the brain into thinking it is a REAL burger. And, psychosomatically, presto! We're halfway fooled into thinking we just bit into a big juicy, beefy hamburger. The rest is up to our taste buds.

There are a few reasons I like eating real meat. Because it “bleeds” is not one of them.

Re: Fake Meat: Anyone had a "Beyond" or "Impossible" burger?

But Iím not addicted to beef. The meat replacements taste damn good. You should also try grilling mushrooms in place of the meat in a sandwich. Good stuff.

Regarding the marketing in the OP, I guess theyíre breaking through to people who are disgusted by a burger without beef. But my point is that it doesnít matter. Meat replacements already taste damn good.

Trixie and I have eaten Impossible burgers on a few occasions. Although they wonít fool anyone who eats real hamburger, it is the closest thing to the real deal and is quite tasty in its own right. We do six months of plant-based and then six months of lo-carb. During the plant-based season, faux burgers and BBQ pork made using jack fruit are in the rotation.

I've seen Impossible Burgers around. I eat meat though, so don't feel the need to try it.

I might have to work my way up to it, I'll start with the Improbable Burger first.

Re: Fake Meat: Anyone had a "Beyond" or "Impossible" burger?

I don't do burgers from McDonalds or any other places except White Castle which are little miniature burgers. But I tend to avoid much of the burger crap out there and make my own. I use this meat to make homemade burgers:

I'm willing to try out that plant base burger one day, assuming it's cancer-free

Re: Fake Meat: Anyone had a "Beyond" or "Impossible" burger?

I know some vegans who think that the idea of eating fake meat is weird. They say they don't eat meat, so why on earth would they want to eat something that imitates it?

I like most of the veggie burgers, but they are no substitute. If I'm having a real burger, I want organic, non-hormone grass-fed beef, cooked rare, so this is worth checking out, to me.

I've had both and can't decide which one's better because they're both good. White Castle has an Impossible Slider.

Unless you've never eaten meat for your entire life, I don't get that. I eat fake meat because when I was a carnivore I liked the taste of meat.

My daughter is vegan...so I will try different "burgers" from time to time. I had one of these and thought they were just ok. Honestly there are vegan burgers on the market now, that while not tasting like meat, are fantastic in their own right....

This thing seemed like it was going to fall apart and had a weird texture to it.

Agreed. A good veggie burger is delicious. Not a replacement to a meat burger but great as its own item. No need to compare the two.

I'd give these a try if I ever ran across them.
