Have you ever been addicted to anything?

I get migraines sometimes. Few times a week, maybe. Went to Dr. and everything, had cat scan, nothing really abnormal. The Dr. prescribed Fioricet which is like a caffeine, acetimenphan, etc. pill. I take 1 as needed. Never took more than 2 in a day. They are a known barbiturate. I'm not even sure what that means, but I know it's not good.

When I think addiction, I think fiending for something on a constant basis. Having to have to satiate an inner whatever. I take these pills, but I don't think I'm addicted.

Re: Have you ever been addicted to anything?

I am addicted to food. Whenever anyone talks about going somewhere (doesn't matter where) the first thing I think about is what kind of food I can have there.

I live a pretty solitary life so it is one of the few pleasures I have. I don't drink really, don't do drugs or smoke, don't go out much nor have the desire to most of the time. Never have even as a kid.

If I was given the choice between going on a date with a hot chick who was way out of my league yet somehow into me, or being able to have some new incredible meal, I would choose the meal every time.

My family is filled with alcoholics, smokers, and drug addicts. I have multiple relatives die way too young including my mother so genetically I am predisposed towards addiction. So I always stayed away from drugs, smoking, drinking and was lucky enough that the times I did drink it never stuck with me the way food did. That is the one that caught me.

I get migraines and have been prescribed the same thing. The label says to take 1 every 4 hours as needed; no more than 6 per day. I've never taken that many in one day. I definetely see why someone could become addicted to them. when you have a migraine and you take one, you can feel yourself craving to take another one. I've worked in a pharmacy before and seen so many people addicted to various pain pills. I always second guess myself weather I need to take a second dose or not. Sometimes I'll debate if I even want to take the first dose even though I need it.

I used to be prescribed Midrin which worked great with no cravings, but it is often taken off the market and when its available it alternated from being really cheap ($4 for 30 pills) to over $200 for $30. I wish it would stay on the maket with generics but for whatever reason it is rarely available anymore.

Shocked this wasn't about being addicted to making threads.

I realize you already know this, but I'll say it anyway: That's damn impressive. You should be very proud.

Re: Have you ever been addicted to anything?

Not me.

The closest I've been to experiencing something like that was when I went cold turkey off sugar. It sucked for a couple of weeks, but after that I didn't miss it. Later that year I made myself a batch of cookies and ate them all. I got a nice buzz. Surprised the heck out of me.

I'm back on the sugar.

Re: Have you ever been addicted to anything?

I have a major collecting addiction. I have collected so many different things over the years, the main ones being DVDs/Blu-rays & comics. At one time I had over 20,000 comics. I presently own over 10,000 DVDs & Blu-rays.

Thanks, I am, but it's tempered with humility for being so stupid I almost killed myself. I'm just grateful to be alive.

Re: Have you ever been addicted to anything?

Nope I don't really have an addictive personality. I used to say my only addiction was caffeine because I drank probably 100 ounces of Diet Coke a day but I stopped drinking soda months ago and other then a headache or two the next couple days I haven't even thought about it. That pretty much cut my caffeine intake to zero since I don't like coffee or tea but I do occasionally drink hot chocolate. I don't drink, smoke or do any drugs. I've tried all those things just have zero interest in them.

Re: Have you ever been addicted to anything?

I'd say the internet.

I can go a day without it (which is rare), but it's tough to go without for longer than that.

Everything feels right if I get at least 30 minutes a day on it.

With JayMole I never know what's real and what's a joke, but he's said that he had movies stacked up against his window in his apartment. I imagine those would've warped after a hot NYC summer. I wish he'd start his own thread like Alan. Jay, what else have you obsessively collected?

Re: Have you ever been addicted to anything?

I probably have 5,000 to 6,000 Bluray/DVDs... maybe (and most likely) more. I don't have an accurate count currently. Whenever I get my house with a nice big basement for them all I'll know for sure. So yea... addicted. Must be curbed.

Re: Have you ever been addicted to anything?

I smoked for nearly 20 years and was addicted as hell. I switched to an ecigarette two years ago and am addicted to that now.

I used to be a bit of an OCD collector of albums, movie and games and have a library of about 2,500 cds, 2,000 blu-rays and 50 or so games. Becoming a dad two years ago nipped that in the bud and I buy less than 1/10 of what I used to, if that. Not sure if I would call that an addiction, but it's probably close enough.

I drank a ridiculous amount of whiskey in my late 20s and early 30s. As in, there was a significant period where I drank at least half a fifth several weeknights per week and more than a fifth every Friday and Saturday. Funnily enough, I don't think I would call that one an addiction. It was poor decision making, but I never felt like I 'had' to have a drink, I just enjoyed it, so I did it a lot. As I got older and started feeling the health consequences, I cut back without even thinking about it. Now I will get together with some friends once every couple months and drink half a bottle or so in the course of a long evening of catching up and bullshitting, but I don't really drink at all beyond that.
