My dad and I usually start picking at food around 3/4 which leads to my mom getting agitated so she puts the dinner out "early", which is 6pm. Our usual dinner time is closer to 8 so 6 is early.

Usually around 5:30-6. Have hors d'oeuvres through the afternoon.

My uncle moved dinner to 1pm this year. I know I'm gonna be hungry by the end of the night.

Which is when you pull out all the food and have turkey sandwich leftovers at 6 or 7. My favorite part of the holiday. Turn that frown upside down my friend.

My Wife, Daughter and I will have our family meal around 12pm. After that, we go to her Grandmother's home for Thanksgiving later that afternoon. I really don't like eating that early but when you have two dinners to attend, I have no other choice.

For my family, it's usually after the end of the Cowboys home game (around 5 to 6 pm Pacific time).

By the way, the tradition of the format sit-down Thanksgiving dinner has started to fade in recent years. Given the gigantic influence of the NFL (especially since a third game was added in the 2006 season), many families are switching to buffet-style servings of Thanksgiving meal, with many people congregating in front of the TV to watch NFL football.

Re: What Time Do You Eat on Thanksgiving Day?

We'll be having our T-day "dinner" about 2PM Nov. 28.

Being part of a kind of blended, multi-family, extended family of over two dozen, and having several people working on Thursday & Black Friday, it's mostly a matter finding time we can all get together.

I can empathize with families who have members that have to work on holidays. When the kids were younger they both had turns working at the movie theater. Being at the bottom of the totem pole they pretty much worked every holiday for years.

My mother isn't that well-organized, so usually the "when it's ready" answer is it. Although the last couple of years we've made sure to start early enough to get out by 5 for Black Friday sales.

I like that BF was moved into Thanksgiving evening. There is still plenty of time to prepare and eat, and you don't have to go at 5 in the morning like before.

Growing up my mother was an excellent cook. One thing she could not do well though was cook a turkey. She is not a good multi-tasker and a thanksgiving dinner requires a lot of it. She would always give a 2 hour time frame then we'd eat an hour after that. When I met my wife my mother was astounded that her family ate at 1:00. She did not understand how anyone could have a turkey dinner ready by 1:00. After I got married and we started hosting, it was then that I saw my wife get everything ready in no time. I gave my mother the business over her "when it's ready" dinners.

Re: What Time Do You Eat on Thanksgiving Day?

Changing my answer to Thursday evening thru the following Thursday or longer. I think we ate less than a tenth of the turkey my wife cooked, and less than half of all the fixings.

Re: What Time Do You Eat on Thanksgiving Day?

We ate around 2 PM this time, largely because there's family splitting time with other relatives so an earlier one let other cousins and in laws go elsewhere later in the evening. For me, it meant plenty of time for shopping at night.
