Mouse balls

I was at my mom's house this weekend, and I had to use her computer for a bit. I hated it so much because her computer is literally about 15 years old and completely obsolete. I am talking something like a Pentium II CPU and 256 MB of RAM here. My mom tolerates it because she hardly ever uses it anyway. She was still using a 56k dial-up modem up until two years ago.

Anyway, the computer is old and obsolete and hardly runs anything modern. The point of this thread though (if there is even a real point other than bad mouse ball humor) is that she has an old style mouse with the ball instead of the laser tracking. I had completely forgotten how much those mouse balls suck until I was forced to use one again.

Re: Mouse balls

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was alluding to some weird discussion of mouse testicles.

For the record, my mouse does not have balls.

Re: Mouse balls

I remember my first laser mouse. Man, talk about stepping into the future with that upgrade. However, I haven't used a mouse for a few years now. I instead use a Wacom tablet (do a lot of photo retouching/compositing) and every time I'm handed a mouse to do something, it feels so foreign and wrong.

The learning curve on this thing was a bitch, but once you get past it... you'll never go back to a mouse.

Re: Mouse balls

The worst is trying to handle someone else's mouse when it has a hairy ball. Talk about a messy experience.

My mice have balls but I don't think it is what you are thinking of. I love my mouse balls:

What part of "mouse balls" makes you think of turds? I only have made one turd thread, so it's not like I have a thing for making turd threads.

I was just thinking of the ball on the underside of the mouse before they came out with the optical laser mouse. Like the pic below:

Re: Mouse balls

Do they even make these anymore?

I don't think I've seen one since they switched over from PS/2 to USB.

The optical cordless mouse is one of the best inventions ever.

I seriously doubt they make balled mice anymore. I don't know why they would since the optical laser mice are better in every single way.

I also kind of wonder if they even make wired mice anymore. I remember about a year or so ago my mouse died, and I was looking for a new one, and all I could find was wireless mice.

Of course they do. Plus, most gaming mice are wired.

Re: Mouse balls

Ha! This thread made me think back to old mice I've used in the past and I remembered the incredibly expensive IBM convertible mouse I had back in the early 90s. It could be a trackball, it could transform and be a mouse. In retrospect it did neither well.

Re: Mouse balls

I remember having to clean those balls....it was frustrating.

I've had no balls for several years...and I'm happier for it!!!

The only wired mice I have seen recently are gaming mice. Concerns over lagging?

Remember to clean behind your ears and your balls too! Mouse balls easily accumulated small dirt particles, and even the smallest amount of dirt could drastically hinder the scrolling ability of the mouse. I hated mouse balls.

Re: Mouse balls

They apparently still make PS2 mice but at least they are laser mice. Some idiot bought some PCs for our company that came with PS2 mice & keyboards. The PCs did have PS2 ports so it wasn't a real issue but these have to stay with those PCs since no other PCs have PS2 ports. Probably saw he could save a nickel per PC or something stupid.
