Boss's Day Etiquette?

The department I work in is a complete dysfunctional mess. Half the people don't talk to one another and the others don't really collaborate on anything. I just realized today was Boss's Day and the 3 other supervisors on our floor for the other departments received a card, balloons, and other gifts.

We had a girl in the department that kind of rallied everyone together to contribute if they wanted for occasions like this but she left earlier this year. I'm debating running to the store on my lunch and picking up a card or something but being the only guy here I think it comes off kind of weird.

Obviously this is a Hallmark holiday but I'm not really sure of the office etiquette. I'm guessing my boss will obviously notice the elaboration for the other departments and feel kind of short-changed.

Is there etiquette for this or is it just kind of whatever?

"Boss's Day"

If you're actually seriously buying into this garbage, I don't know what to tell you.

I'm not. As I've stated in other threads, I'm one of two males in a business unit of 100 people. The women eat this crap up. There's so much estrogen in this building I feel like I have a vagina 10 hours out of the day.

I just kind of feel bad for her I guess. The fact that everyone hates each other in my department is just so blatantly obvious.

Who knew this was Boss's Day? I guess I celebrated by taking the day off of work; my boss is picking up the slack.

I am a boss and I will fire any of my employees who try and celebrate this day.

Why? Because a man can't be thoughtful, even more thoughtful than the 100 women you work with? There's a lot of reasons to not celebrate a Hallmark holiday but don't let this be one, bro.

Re: Boss's Day Etiquette?

I think females dig this stuff more then guys; my fiancee bought a balloon and flowers for her boss last night. If you're in an office with mostly women, I can see how it would be a thing. Easiest thing might be to pop in to a super market and get candy and a balloon or something ismple.

Screw Boss's Day. I would be in the bathroom playing with myself.

Re: Boss's Day Etiquette?

If you get the card, you'll probably look like you're coming on to your boss. She'll throw you to HR, and the rest of the women will hate you forever. Not to your face, of course, but behind your back.

Boss's Day. What a joke.

My co-worker brought in a card for everyone to sign. I looked at her like she lost her mind. Dumbest holiday ever.

Re: Boss's Day Etiquette?

Your boss not getting anything for Boss's Day might be a good thing. Maybe it'll open her eyes to what a shitty, disfunctional office she's running.

Re: Boss's Day Etiquette?

They got my boss $100 Amazon card. I didn't donate. Isn't boss's day every two weeks when they get their inflated paycheck?

I should say that my boss is really nice (and easy on the eyes) - I just have an aversion to these "made up" holidays.

All of our secretaries bought us Pizza today. That was very nice of them and we all really appreciated it. The next secretaries' day, I may actually get them a card.

The first time I heard of this I thought people were just shitting me. Under appreciated people and positions deserve special days: mothers, fathers, veterans ... and I'm cool with secretaries. But bosses?!?!? Every freakin' day is boss's day!

That's as dumb as if parents had to recognize a children's day or something. Wait a second ... there IS a children's day. I never heard of it. Is that a thing too?
